We ate there last night, and loved it. Have driven by it all sandy and nasty many times, but last night, for once, I was ... well, not nasty, and I had my wife and daughter. They thought it was great as well. |
Thanks for the updated review, Deb and I are going to give it a try this weekend.

The sweet gal at the door opened it and apologized at the same time, "i have a hard time saying we are a cajun restaurant - we have run out of crawfish !" - my group was / is into shrimp more than crawfish - and then breaded the shrimp the light cajun way we used to have them over in baton rouge - and just nice people.
Has nothing to do with the cafe, but as I was leaving, a sweet little boy, probably 12 years old walked up to me, his family was celebrating something and said, "Happy Fathers Day, Sir" - made my evening even better. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

My Corpus friend took us to Dragon Fly on PR 22. In the strip center before you turn on 361. Seafood was great. I just read in Parks and Wildlife an article about Donna Shavers history on the island and she stated it was one of her favorite places.

I forgot to mention the owner and cook at Dragon fly is Dominique Cordier, who was a cruise ship chef for many years.

Howdy!
We made it down and overall had a great time. We were lucky to avoid most of the nasty weather until Wednesday morning, but were leaving that afternoon anyway so it didn't really affect our trip much. I hope most of you were lucky to avoid flooding as some areas we saw weren't as fortunate.
We fished a little and crabbed with little success. Caught three legal crabs that were released, and zero fish to speak of...just a few good bites but no hookups. The bites came on live pinfish, croaker, and finger mullet about 2.5-3 ft under a Cajun Thunder just off the main channel outside Aransas Pass. We did also see some feeding activity Tuesday early evening that looked like trout blowups or ladyfish, but were on our way to dinner and didn't stop to fish it. Sorry for the lack of a good report. Hopefully the weather and fresh water ruined our fishing and not operator error.
As for food...We went to Fisherman's Daughter the first night and were very disappointed. The guy that greeted and sat us was a bit awkward to start. Then the food arrived...chicken fried steak and coconut shrimp. The chicken fried steak was very tough and bland and mashed potatoes were cold in the middle; the coconut shrimp was tough and very oily. Also, the green beans were cold and looked old like they had sat out all day, or were leftovers from the day before, without being stored/heated properly. We told the server they were cold and she chocked it up as us not liking their recipe, which was frustrating. Then the guy from earlier came by and mentioned that we didn't like the green beans, and we replied "yeah, they were ice cold". All he said was "well that doesn't make any sense", no apology or attempt to fix the problem. In our opinion and experience the Fisherman's Daughter had issues with food quality and customer service.
The next night we went to Scuttlebutt's. It was awesome. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. We had a few drinks (try the Alaskan Amber and Alaskan White if you haven't had either before), a Tijuana Roll, and shared the Seafood Platter. Everything was awesome and we will try to eat there on future visits to The Island. The food came out very hot, fresh, and properly cooked. Fish was tender and flakey, shrimp were tender and plump, oysters were fresh and tasty, and fries had a great crunchy seasoning on the outside.
Next time we're in town, we'll give C'est Bon a try and revisit Scuttlebutt's. Thanks again everyone for your suggestions, they helped us have a great trip. |

^^^ Yea, what he said! My Go-To brew at Scuttlebutts. Didn't see the Fried Asparagus on your list. You may need that for your return. Plus the Dragon Roll. Glad your trip batted 0.500, in the food department. |

| Went to C'est Bon last night, and was pleasantly surprised. The pistolettes were Layafette-style and authentic (the crawfish one could have used more crawfish, but the boudin was spot on). The wife and I split the crawfish etouffee and between that and the appetizers, it was a good meal. The roux was thick and had a homemade taste. Overall, I'd give it an 8. |

| My wife and I and our daughter and husband just ate C'est Bon in Flour Bluff. Thought it was terrible. All the fish was extremely dry and the prices I thought were very high for the type and quality of food. My one and only time there. |

My wife and I are long-time Cajun/Creole cuisine fans. We've been to C'est Bon four time since it opened and are not impressed overall. Their boudin is good but four chances to impress failed.
We've been to Mo Meaux's three times and ARE impressed. We will continue to go back in order to work our way thru the rest of the menu. Really good tasting Cajun/Creole food at a reasonable price. _________________ HooYah!
