Note that the water is already getting shallower on the South side as sand accumulates _________________ Ahh sand between my toes! |

Probably. It does that in between the Newport Pass Jetties. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

| The mansfield channel has sanded up and thoese jetties are sticking out pretty far into the gulf. The jetties at Galveston stick out there about five miles or so and if any one has noticed they have not sanded up. How the hell does anyone expect to spend a lot of money and build these packery channel jetties & expect them to last very long when the jetties are very short. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. STUPID it is in my opinion. All one has to do is observe what is going on around them. Money talks and the developers and politicians con the taxpayers into spending that only helps for a short time. Do it up right or don't do it . They, we, don't have enough money to build five mile long jetties. This ploy will , I think, be good for fishing and developers for the short term and then what was promised will not be there. |

"Jetty fishing from the Galveston south jetty. Galveston jetties are listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the longest jetties in the world at 35,587 feet."
From:
http://www.swg.usace.army.mil/items/whatwedo/10.asp
that would make them almost 7 miles long.
I'm not sure how long the Port A jetties are, but they seem to work pretty well.
Anyonje know the length of the Port A jetties? _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

I understand the jetties at Pack are supposed to go out 1400ft (longer than Bob hall pier) wait till its finished then complain. _________________ Fish hard, fish the Bluff. Surrounded by water!

| You are right Big John. Actually it is the North Jetties that reach out seven miles. The South are somewhat shorter. Combined footage would be interesting to know. |

I fished the north jetties at Galveston when I was younger. My Grandpa had a cabin at Port Boliver. The north side of the north jetties has filled in to the boat cut. When I was there it was only out about half way.
That was some rough summers. Having the beach between the old fort (now a state park) and the north jetties as my yard. We did not have a good day fishing unless the cooler was full. Bait was live shrimp and sold for 2 dollars a quart. Everyone thought that was high.
Those are some good memories

I would like to know at what spot they start their measurements? Is the concrete sides part of the jettie measurement? _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.
