Are you talking about South Bay at Port Isabel or Aransas Pass?

OK Dave....

Are you fishing from a powerboat, wading, or kayaking??? And when are you planning on fishing??? I need to check the tides so I can point you in the right direction. I also need to know how you plan to fish it as that lets me know what waters you have access to.

The South Bay area is where I fish most these days. There is lots of diverse structure and tons of spots to find fish in that area. However because this area is greatly affected by tidal flows being just inside the Port A jetties, you have to work with the tide & wind to figure out where the fish will be. I believe the fish in that area move a lot. Unlike the Laguna where much of the bay has much of same structure and tidal impact is minimal, I don't believe the fish in teh Laguna move as often or as far on a day to day basis.

thanks a bunch, GC. Troy (14yrs old) son and I will fish Wed pm June 8th thru Sat 11 to about 3pm. We normally fish am to about 3pm or so and then head to beach or go eat out and rest up.
Have fished Hog Island/Dagger/CA hole area for past 15 yrs or so..just never got up into South Bay.. always like to add a new spot or two on each trip and SB looks logical.. Looking at the aerial view, the South wind blowing you thru' the fishing areas look awesome.
..We fish with a 25HP Merc and 15 ft alumicraft boat. Many times will drift throwing Cocahoes..this year have added some DOA CAL's shad tails and 5.5inch Jerk baits (thought these would be excellent as weedless rig in really shallow water). we also like to tie up and fish with shrimp or freshly caught perch (we call 'em 'home grown perch'). on bottom or below Mansfield Mauler. We like to fish around oyster areas, sandy spots or fish shoreline grassy points.
With Troy growing older, sometimes its difficult to get the boat back up out of really shallow water...but we don't mind...we'll just pole or drift to the nearest 'hole'.. once we're up..we're fine.
Have ordered some maps from GulfCoast Fisherman..so that will help as well. Your point about tidal flow sounds about what I thought but the fish movement is great news. Looking at that aerial view, I was hoping to work into the bay from the 'Cut' side or along Hog Island bounder if I had to. Man, that little bay looks excellent as you head North toward CC Bayou. looks shallow too..but that's ok...what better way to spend the time.

You don't know how much I'll appreciate your input...just didn't want to get in there and destroy my 'lower unit'...looks kinda tricky getting in there. any input about warnings to watch out for, eg submerged junk, osyster reefs, etc.?
WE owe ya' one, GC.
Thanks for your time and input
We live in Midland...once a year get to the Bay...input is awesome.
Best Regards,
Dave

On a low tide, you want to fish the gut on the west side of south bay. If you have an photo of the bay, there is a small oyster reef just to the west of the gut.

On a high tide, the east side next to the kayak trails is good. If you want to go up close to cc bayou in the flat, then use Cummings cut to the old air boat dock(there is a drilling rig in that area now). Right by the air boat dock is a small channel that runs back into the flats north of South bay. The closer to CC bayou and Quarentine shore you get, the more oyseters you will find.

Check microsoft terra server for pictures of the bay.
