Emmords Hole, a six-mile depression in Laguna Madre along the King Ranch shoreline, south of the Pure Oil Channel.

Someone told me the yellow cabin was the southernmost end of it. I have also heard it was the natural deep spot or channel before the ICW was put in.

I get to Emmord's by taking the Pure Oil Channel to the King Ranch Shoreline, and then heading south. After a few miles, I head toward the ICW. You will notice the water will get to 5-6 feet, and you are there.

Emmord's is a big area, and heads south to ICW Marker 135 or so (if I remember correctly).

Accessing Emmord's directly from the ICW can be tough on low tide unless you have a real shallow boat.

Enmmord's has always been hit or miss for me. Sometimes a quick limit, sometimes nada.

If you put in at Bird Island, go straight out the channel and straight acroos the ICW and you will be in Emmords Hole

If you are new to the area, you should know that the prevailing wind (southeast) has produced a fairly well-defined lip in the western edge of the ICW that is not present on the eastern side. Crossing over this lip can be touchy in certain places and at certain times of the year. On the south end, the gut that contains Emmord's becomes continuous with the ICW at red marker 130 (likely extends to 135 as well - good memory!) and you can cross easily over the western lip of the ICW anywhere around there. If you have a deeper V boat, just cross the lip while you are turning as this momentarily converts it to a shallower draft boat. As the deep gut heads northwest, it crosses the Pure Oil Channel and becomes Beacroft's Hole. Continue on north and you will eventually reach the New Humble Channel, connecting the ICW to Pita Island area, although it can get a little shallow before you actually reach Pita Island. Crossing over directly across from Bird Island (marker 119) is fine most of the year as stated above, but you want to stay south of the pink shack - it can get skinny around there when the water is low. Entry to the King Ranch shoreline and Emmord's is easiest from the Pure Oil Channel, if you can get through there and around all of the equipment.

Thanks for the responses. Got the suggested map and when I put your responses up against the map, it sure made sense. See you on the water . . . .
