I never understood why the Bass Pro Shop was located in Katy. It seems the ideal place to locate it would have been off of 45 down by Clear Lake.
Then they would get more traffic, especially from people heading to Galveston and points south, in addition to all the locals.
I lived over there for a year, and never had the urge to drive an 1 1/2 hours to get to Katy to go to the Bass Pro Shop, and alot of other Anglers I knew felt the same way. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

When I'm in Houston, I stay at the Homestead near the Willowbrook mall. I usually visit Sun & Ski, Academy, Oshman's, and Gander Mountain while I'm there since they're right in the neighborhood and it keeps me out of trouble because the only other thing to do is go to bars.
I went down to FTU (Cut Rate) last Saturday, but didn't get there until a few minutes before closing time.
I'll have to check out Bass Pro Katy-Mills this weekend if I get a chance. I like visiting those places.
Personally, I'd hate to see a big company come into Corpus and put Roy's out of business. If I can't get it at Roy's or our local Academy, I can order it online.
Yes, I do think the "payyourownwaybasspro" group is FOS. But I hate to see the big guys put the hurt on the little guys.
The only thing I strongly dislike about Corpus Christi is the fact that HEB and WalMart are the only grocery stores available. I prefer more choices than that, and I miss the diversity of grocery stores from when I lived in Baton Rouge (though WalMart is trying to shut down the rest over there too). _________________ Chad Landry

I guess the reasoning behind that is they wanted to pull in some of the freshwater fishing, hunting and camping business also which would be more prominent out west. And also, probably pull in visitors from San Antonio and Austin who are just over two hours from there. I agree that there would be a lot more saltwater traffic out in the Clear Lake direction.
cjl - There are two Cut-Rate stores and the biggest one is off the Gulf Freeway. |

There is the IGA in Port A. Just over the ferry from you.
Yep - they want that hunting crowd. Is there any freshwater fishing out that way? I know there are lakes around there, just never been to them.
San Antonio is a 3 1/2 drive from Katy (at 75mph). Did it way too many times before and during the move from SA to League. Took 5 hours to make the whole trip one way. The LUV's truck stop, roughly halfway, is a good stopping point. Clean, friendly, well lit-up at night. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

I have to say that I am happy to see Bass Pro going where it is.Especially since it is right on the way to CC from Fredericksburg. But I wiil say that Roys will still Probably see most of my Families business.I have been to both Bass Pro in Texas and for Saltwater selection [especially surf fishing]I believe that Corpus has what they need in Roys and even Academy for some of the lower price shoppers.I still believe that service is worth paying for and that is what I get at Roys and other smaller stores.
