Rainbow Trout that is.Saw the story in the back of the sports section in the Sunday paper.
The Lakeview Park Pond was stocked Friday with 1000 adult Rainbow Trout ready for the catch'n.The pond is on Holly Road just north of Rodd Field Road.The article said to use salmon eggs,night crawlers(earth worms),marshmallows,cheese ect...for bait.
I lived up north years ago and fished stocked lakes and ponds for rainbows.It's a blast.And great eating!
The night crawlers and salmon eggs works best.Even better,Wax worms (grubs) if you can find them.I always used a small hook under a small bober.The rainbows should be adults.I'm going to give it a try cuz I live near the pond.Mabe I'll have a report.

I might give it a go to. Want just two for dinner. They should be about 10" long if they are the typical adults they release. I alos live right around the corner.

We have them stocked up here by the house on Blue River and we used to use whole kernel corn from a small can but the corn was so deadly that it was made illegal to use. But another good bait is the yellow crappie nibbles that are used to tip the jig when crappie fishing. Boy those are good eating when you can get them. They release 2000 grown rainbows 2 times each month Nov. thru March so it makes for some great winter catchin & eatin

If you got the All-water license, you're good to go. If all you got was the Saltwater stamp, you'll need to add the Freshwater stamp. This is part of the new regs that went into effect 1 Sep 2004:

"Effective September 1, 2004, anyone fishing in fresh waters of this state must possess a freshwater fishing stamp endorsement issued by the department."

I remember that pond as a kid. It had a dirt trail going all the way around it with a play area a decade are so added.
I was visiting there some month ago and decided to go take a look at the park now. I was very disappointed to see it overgrown and the pond almost completely emty, that pond had some many turtle in it.
So from what your saying is that the fixed it up?

We've been hammering them here in SA, actually at the Guadalupe River tailrace. Easy pickings great on light 2-6 lb tackle. Had 2 limits Saturday and 2 limits yesterday with many walking away with limits. They love Berkley power bait in chartreuse. Most of them are small but there are some nice ones mixed in.

Just got home after fishing there for a couple of hours.I used corn flavored salmon eggs then some Berkley Power grubs under a small cork.I fished at the pier then on the other side of the pond. Not 1 fish Sad

My cork went down twice but back up again.Talked to about 5 other guys trying for the same fish.Somebody said people caught some small catfish yesterday,but no rainbows then or today.One guy said compaired to last year's release,it was in a pond in the Bluff,the water here is somewhat muddy and last year people were limiting out quickly.Any way might try again another day.

I've been doing the winter rainbow thing for several years now & have found you catch the bigger trout with in-line spinners. Corn (which is not illegal) has been found to kill rainbows so it's not the recommended bait choice, however it is effective. I fish the canyon lake tailrace also & have found just about every trout bait known to mankind in their gullets. My best bait had been yellow rooster tails with a gold blade, but I found a little gold spinner made in Italy which I've found to be deadlier.

Sorry for the confusion fellas ,,,the corn IS illegal up here in Oklahoma on Blue river where we are at. Didnt mean that corn was illegal everywhere. Nice stringers in the above pics and boy they are yummy.

I lived for a while up in the mountains where rainbows were popular. I never kept them because they looked like what I would use for bait on my 4/0 out on PINS. And I thought they were bony - but then many years of eating whiting spoiled me.

Corn IS illegal in many parts of the Guadalupe below Canyon dam. Just not below the dam in the tailrace, where you find most of the freshly stocked trout.............Kyle

On sections of the river (between the 3rd crossing & 5th) all bait is illegal, you can only use artificials there. This is because TPWD evidently made an agreement with TU for artificials only in the areas they stock. TU leases river access land & stocks bigger rainbows & brown trout in these areas. Anyone can fish there if you float down river or have purchased a day pass from the landowner. These trout are not your little hatchery fish, but trout up to 27". There is a limit of one fish that has to be min. 18" in those areas of the river. Most folks use fly rods there, but you can still use light spinning tackle.
