| Anyone know where I might be able to catch some Black Drum. I fish here in the Coprus area frequently, Indian Point, Packery etc. I only fish on land and am starting to wade, so any advice on some bait and where to find Black Drum, would be greatly appreciated. |

| Dead Mans or kates hole area. CosWay. or red dot piers have been producing at night as well. If you want to access even more water, you may want to look at getting a kayak. Very versitile, many options to choose from, and its a nice comprimise from shore, wade, and pier fishing vs boat fishing with a lot less expense. |

| Backside of mustang island. Heading toward Port A there are a few different roads off to the left that will get you back there. They are near the church on the left hand side. There may be a link on the team oso website if I am not mistaken. Always had good luck around the power lines |

RedRipper, let me apologise up front for saying this, because I just got off another thread and am feeling impish, but the way you spelled Corpus means something else in Latin, and you should see a great improvement in your success now that you're starting to wade instead of fishing only on land.
Seriously, there is often some good drum fishing at the mouth of Oso Bay east of TAMU-CC, but be sure to park only along the edge of Shoreline/Ocean Drive, and be careful when you wade into the Oso itself to stay on firm bottoms. Another good spot seasonally is the Packery Channel shoreline south of Kate's Hole. You can access this area off the tiny county park north of SPID where it bends south after crossing the Intracoastal Bridge.
Sorry again about the snickers; just couldn't resist. Tight lines! |

| Thanks for the info. I am very prone to typos having mammoth claws instead of hands, and of all things to to mispell.... |

RedRipper, as someone who wears size 8 surgical gloves, I heard that!
Thanks for taking my sense of humor so well. It's a delight to find someone who can tolerate it. Back in the dark ages when we didn't have PCs, much less spell-checking programs, the most frustrating stuff used to slip through all the human editing. My worst error was writing about spawning "bears" in North Slope rivers; that made it past me, two supervisors, and two editors with PhDs. into a gigantic EIS. I also bug the local newspaper guys about their bloopers. One of those claimed in his column he'd be "tinkled" pink about something. A few days ago I gigged another about a misplaced dependent clause that unintentionally referred to Ennis Joslin as "the road that predates the Karankawas." No wonder it needed reconstruction!
Let me congratulate you on your own sense of humor, and for capitalizing both Rs in your handle. |

| So I have read that peeled shrimp works well for Drum. Don't get me wrong, I am not a Drum freak, would just like to give myself all the help I can get. I was not blessed with a fishing family, and have had the burden of learning it all myself. Although my Dad did give me some good advice in "the only stupid question is the one you don't ask" |

Peeled shrimp does so well because drum detect their food principally by its smell; taking off the wrapper lets more of the scent get into the water faster. Drum are very well equipped to grind up crabs and clams, their major natural food groups, but those are harder for us to to come by and put on a hook. A preferred bait, particularly when bait-stealers are murdering your peeled shrimp, is mantis shrimp, almost always sold under the name of sea lice. Now that Fish Bites have Fishn' Strips in crab, shrimp, and clam flavors, my advice would be to bait up a double drop leader with a couple of those and stick a little chunk of peeled shrimp on each of the hooks as well. Then, even if the bait-stealers beat the drum to the bait, the Fisn' Strip will still be around long after the shrimp is taken, and you won't "be fishin' on credit." We tore the drum up at the Port Mansfield cut last spring on those combos, or maybe it was the other way around, 'cause we never got one small enough to keep. |

This time of year on windy days Indian Point will produce. Use small crabs with their legs broken off or sea lice as JF said. You'll need a pier net to land 'em there. All the way down the pier to far right, cast as far as you can.

| I have seen some extremely oversized Drum come up off of that corner. I have only seen them catching there at 2-4 in the morning. I have to add, that spot is one to scout, its very popular. |
