If your're coming from Corpus, Take the hwy. to Portland. When you get to Gregory, Take 35 north like you are going to Aransas Pass. Just out of Gregory there is a caution light where a fm. rd. intersects with 35. It is just before a big right curve. Take the farm road past the refinery to the next 4 way stop. ( 5 miles or so). This should be the intersection with fm. 188 or 881. There is some construction on it. Turn rt. on to 881 and go 4-5 miles. When you come to the Reynolds dikes you are close to the bridge that crosses Port bay. This is the back end of Port bay. If you want to go to the mouth continue across the bridge to the next 4 way stop. Turn left and go to Rockport. Look for signs to Rattlesnake point.

Geologically speaking, Port Bay is that part of southern Copano Bay west of Live Oak Peninsula. It's a remnant of the lagoon system that preceded the formation of the barrier islands we see along the immediate Western Gulf Coast today. Other parts of that ancient system are Oso Bay, Ingleside Cove, and Powderhorn Lake.

cross the harbor bridge to portland in gregory past the over pass take a left crossing over the median and getting onto the farm road forgot the number but it says refugio and bayside with an arrow. follow it down to the 4way where you intersect with 188 going to rockport. take a right and at the first bridge is port bay. **note there is a nice wade fishing spot where reds and drum hang around in this area. before you reach the port bay bridge there is a road to the left that says copano bay retreat road. take this road to the end and there will be a subdivision that is just starting park your truck and wade in. real nice place to fish never anyone out there and lots of reds and drum. if you are looking for trout the port bay bridge at night is killer. i see people there all the time who bring generators and hang lights from the left side of the bridge and dangle them over the water and then go under the bridge and tear up the trout. if you look on the main page of this website and click on best wading and kayaking spots on the left frame it explains all these places further. http://www.caller.com goes into it even further just visit the outdoors section.

Just take hwy 35 north towards Rockport. You can take FM 1069 at Aransas Pass north to FM188 or you can stay on 35 and exit directly on FM188.

To go to Port Bay proper, turn left on FM 188 going west. Port Bay is the first bridge you come to.

If you want wade or drop a kayak, take the 1069 route, but, instead of turning at FM188, continue straight on 1069. Take the next county road to your left. It dead ends into Port Bay just inland from Italian Bend.
