| A couple of years ago we saw 3 T-45 Goshawks from Kingsville flying low and slow over us. The lead had a tow target in tow...the other two 'rocked' their wings several times. It was obivious that they were showing off to us. They made a couple of passes and disappeared. In the early 80's we were almost at the jettys camping out. There was a shrimp boat scuttled on the 3 bar with no one around. My buddy and I were checking it out when a Cessna buzzed us. My buddy moon'ed them on their second pass and I was laughing my butt off. Well...the planed turned around...flaps down low pass and the dang guy landed on the hardpack sand. I was ready to head north real fast but the pilot and another young kid got out and waved us down. It turned out that the pilot had the shrimpers insurance agent on board and was going to pay this young kid to stay on the beach and make sure no one got hurt or took anything off of the shrimper. I've heard full automatic weapons being shot from the south jetty area at night before too....that always makes for sound sleeping. The only time I'd camp out down there now (older and married now) would be with a larger group. It's still a wild and wonderful area! galvbay |

| hovercraft with night vision maybe?? i know back when i was in highschool down in kingsville about 4 years ago, it was either Border Patrol or U.S. Customs or some other agency was using NAS Kingsville for a couple months. there was Apaches and Cobras flying in and out of the base all day and all night. My step dad is plane captain for the T-45's out on base and said they were supposedly catching drug runners. i didn't know the border patrol had the funds for apaches and such so the choppers could have been with the army or marines. they could have been helping the border patrol or doing training operations for all i know but they were all black and scarey sneaky. they kinda snuck up on me one time while i was out playing golf. too bad u didnt have a spotlight. |

The night I spoke of earlier when the F4's showed up for the chase there was no surf, no wind and absolutly dead quite. There was no sound at all from the light, none. I wasn't drinking or smoking wacky weed either.
When the F4's showed up and the fun began I wish I had a Video camera but that was before their time. Hell of a show to watch. I'm not the only old timer that has seen the Camels, Venus and other stuff down there.
I hope some of the smart mouth people get to see some camels some night and then see what they have to say. Mike |

This past weekend was a new moon(dark) and sometimes Venus can rise and be so bright that it could give the impression of a light over the water that could be "following" you. Not sure this was the case in this incident but that was tossed in as an explanation for what might have happened. |

Here is a great link to find the times and locations for satellite viewing. You will need to input your location and it will give you the times and coordinates of any satellite for that day or morning. The lower the brightness number...the brighter the viewing. If you are lucky enough to see Space Station on a good night...it's very impressive. PINS is the PERFECT place to view because of no light pollution from the city lights.
Enjoy...galvbay

| After hearing all of these stories, I have to tell you mine. Some years back, myself and a friend (We'll call him Sgt. Mike) were camping somewhere around the 55. We fished until midnight and soon after went to sleep. It got kind of cold (October) so I got into my inflatable to get out of the light breeze. At about 5 in the morning, my buddy wakes me up. I laid there for a second trying to figure out what was going on when I hear my buddy say, "There is someone walking towards us from the north." I was instantly WIDE AWAKE! It was the middle of the week and we did'nt see anybody on our trip down. I was thinking we were in major trouble. I got up and went to my truck. My buddy already had my 30 Carbine out and loaded. He pointed out a shape to our north. I could see something, but I was'nt sure if it was moving. My buddied yelled for them to stop and identify themselves, but there was no answer. Finally he yelled, "YOU BETTER STOP OR I'LL SHOOT YOUR A$$!." Again, no reply. I jumped in my truck and spun it around to light up our uninvited guest. It turned out to be the mile marker. Still to this day, I tease him about it every chance I get. I don't think I was ever so glad to NOT see a person in my life. So if any of you guys ever run into a Sgt. Mike, tell him I said "YOU BETTER STOP OR I'LL SHOOT YOUR A$$". |

Hi Tyler, I know yoy aren't a smart mouth. One of the replies to my post said it was the planet Venus the planes couldn't catch even with after burners, think it was Torpedo. Another said it was a Camel with a Colman lantern in its mouth.
I was just telling the the man who was asking about the lights I had seen them and had an encounter with them also. I'm not the only old timer who has had simular sightings also. Ask your Dad if he has any knowledge of such a thing or people that has. Thanks, Mike |

would i be able to lose venus for a few miles, stop, hide, cutoff my lights, wait 5 minutes and watch it reappear slowly? ok.
i had to oppurtunity today to speak with the skipper of a aircraft carrier based out of san diego, he assured me jets are sent off on a regular basis in the pacific chasing "lights", and never catching them. the pilots would radio back"it doesnt operate like any aircraft i've seen" . he's only 26yrs old and claims he's seen things that no man would believe, and thats theres plenty of things out there the navy cant explain.
what i saw was no doubt man made/operated, i dont believe it was an aircraft or a boat though, i believe t-tung might be on to something, i recall seeing two border patrol hummers on the beach that week, i appreciate all the feedback and stories, camel or no camel, thanks |

Venus has been rightly and wrongly accused of being a UFO for decades, in part because it has been reported by its observers as appearing to pursue them, even when they're aboard cars and aircraft. That's why I suggested Venus as an explanation. Someone else had mentioned the Navy's F4 Phantom, but I scoffed at that because the noise of an F4 on afterburner is second only to that of a Concorde. I gave audiograms to a Phantom squadron once and wound up advising half the ground crew members not to waste money on stereos because they had high range hearing losses.
I have similar reservations about the phenomenon reported at the beginning of the string being a hovercraft; again, it's mostly because they're noisy as hell. Dittto helicopters, because, while their engines can be muffled and the ducted tail fans reduce the interaction with the main rotor's wake that produces the classic "whup, whup, whup" noise, when close to the observer, the sand and the water they would still produce very tell-tale minitature storms, flying sand and spray. I'm most interested that this was on a night with no moon and a lot of bioluminescence in the water, yet whatever bore the light apparently didn't leave a glowing wake in the first gut, so that would seem to rule out boats, hovercraft and helicopters flying near the surface. Finally, I can't conceive of anyone successfully navigating the first gut for any distance at a high rate of speed because of the gut's shallowness.
Venus is still a better candidate in my mind than conventional craft. As to the subject of UFOs, they're a fantastic subject for discussion, but by definition unidentifiable.
Now, would someone like to explain the circumstances of the camel photo and sightings? |

I think it goes back to the U.S. Army Camel Corps experiment back in the late 1850's. A few of the camels were released in the desert region of West Texas and supposedly some made their way to what is now the Padre Island National Seashore. Or so I've been told. |
