i spent most of the past week out on pins, after fishing all day, i would drive into town in the evenings for a warm meal and return to spend the night on the beach, i got back to the beach thursday nite around 11pm,

the water had that erie green glow i've heard of before, around the 10mm nature called and i pulled over by the dunes in what i thought was a desolate area to do my business and admire the neon green surf

as i opened the door and hopped onto the sand, a noise brought my attention to a light around 50 yds behind me near the waters edge, feeling foolish for stopping so close to a camp i hopped back in, before pullin away i took a second look at the light, it seemed to be floating back and forth,

i took off at about 15mph, looking over my shoulder i determined this light was not a nighttime angler but something following me! by the time i got around the 15mm, a round was chambered and i was exceeding 30mph and the light was as close as the bed of my truck

i knew by the time i got to the 20mm there would be soft sand and camps to avoid and outrunning this thing wasn't an option, i increased my speed to 50mph losing the light for about 5 miles, close to the 20mm i ran up on a camp, i stopped about 50 yards shy and backed up to the dunes.

there i sat in the dark, truck idling, fear turned to anger, and i was ready to see what was so eager to pester me, a few minutes passed and the light that just moments earlier was running 30mph behind me, now came floating up to the waters edge ever so gently, a few minutes passed as i sat staring at this light trying to catch a glipse, and the bad vibe i kept feeling said it was doing the same,

i threw the truck in gear and flashed on my brights as i thrashed through the sand at full speed, the light dimmed and an object that i can best describe as triangular shot off into the darkness back offshore. in my experience, ive never seen a boat with that good of a hole shot.

i'm sure somewhere, someone is having a good laugh over this, but for the life of my i cant find a simple explanation, what was it and why was it cruising the surfzone near the midnight hour

other than this episode had a great week of jacks and bull reds, not sure if i'll ever fish the beach solo again though

when i woke up this morning all i could think about was a show on disc channel about the midget subs of pearl harbor, the triangular shape i described reminds me of the observation tower in my mind, as for the camel???

O.K. my turn.
About 5 years ago I drove down alone from SA after work. Hit the beach about 11:00 pm on a week night. Was driving along, spotlighting the surf looking for a place to camp. Occasionally I would stop and look over the surf hoping to find a good gut and/or rip by using my spotlight. It was late and I was a bit groggy but still rolling down the beach listening to some tunes. I was in that completely relaxed zone that only the beach provides. Suddenly it was daylight. In an instant it went from night to day. I hit the brakes hard and sat there trying to orient myself. It was truely the "Twilight Zone" to me and I was scared s**tless. After a few seconds (that seemed like minutes) I heard a muffled noise. I rolled down the window and turned off the stereo and could then hear a "Whoop,whoop,whoop" sound.
One of those turbo jet Coast Guard heilcopters had eased up behind me and turned on that monster bank of lights. I got out and looked at him for a minute but he never moved. I finally regained my composure got back in the truck and headed south again. He followed me for probably 10 miles, periodically swooping out into the gulf for a few hundred yards, then back besides me for a while.
It wasn't until talking with some of the locals that I realized that he thought I was a possible drugrunner. Evidentally small boats will drop off parcels just off the beach, and their partners posing as fishermen will pick them up as they hit the beach. He finally gave up on me and headed south ahead of me. I can honestly say that when that beach turned to daylight I was absolutly terrified for a few moments. Guess I assumed ET had come home for me.

I was a cop (local, state and federal) for 43 years and I've seen things I cant explain and still wont talk about. On several different occasions I interviewed people about some rather remarkable things they saw and/or experienced. Never had any "hard evidence" in support of their claims but I am convenced of their sincerity. And without evidence its rather difficult to convence an experienced, suspecious investigator. As for what Ryan saw, I wasnt there so I dont know. And about what Big Ed experienced , I'll bet both of my sox that was NOT an orange and white Coast Guard helo. Poppadunn

Growing up in Kville (60's up), there were always rumors about NASA/Air Force using NAS Kingsville for a remote strip for X-Planes. Wonder if they have a new 'toy' they are flying.

Your eyes and mind can really play tricks on you at the beach at night. Especially if you are alone on a 63 mile stretch of beach. We used to see stuff like that while trainig at Ft Irwin in the souther california desert.

Poppa are you talking about the men in the black helicopter? You need to tune in to most any am radio station from midnight to 4 am every night for a program called coast to coast. They get off the beaten path with some of thier subjects. 1700 am in the valley carries it.

the whole time i sped down the beach, the light stayed in the wade gut, possibly the 2nd, it was never directly behind me, which leads me to believe it wasnt flying, however i have noticed several other helicopters, particulaly a white/blue one that circled me twice tuesday, i guess its possible the triangle shape was the tail section

and irv's right, i didnt sleep much the night before, however i lost the light for a few miles, parked by the dunes, in the 5 or so minutes it took for the light to catch up, i had regained my composure, i even doubted myself until it reappeared

i just wanted to post this to see if anyone else might have seen something the same night

I can see from some of the replies there are alot of real smart butts out there that don't know what goes on down there some times. It's because they haven't been there at the right time. I'm not going to go into detail about some of the things I've seen down there but The Navy got involved in one of them pretty hot and heavy when two F8 Phantoms were to slow to catch the Camel as you say. I've seen things down there that made the hair on my neck stand straight up. I'm a beleiver until they prove alot of us didn't see what we saw. That's like them telling us we didn't see Rodney King get the poop beat out of him that night in LA. Mike"Hip" Sowden
