I want to thank the two guys that stopped and helped me get unstuck on the pins this morning.
Didnt catch much one rat red and a 17 inch blue. Are bluefish any good to eat? Surf was real nice the water was clear and there were a lot of fingert mullet in about 6" to 12" of water. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.

| Rabbit let me know how the bluefish is, I brought home a few blues and one whiting. I have never eaten a bluefish. The meat is a little dark. |

| rabbit, Vern: I prefer bluefish to Spanish mackerel when smoked. Bluefish are actually mild enough to fry, but like with the macs the dark stripe is fishy tasting. Anyhow, both are oily enough not to dry out when smoked. |

On the blues, cut out most the red meat and fry them. You can leave the rest of the skin on, just scale them. I think they are great. They are more common in Florida. I used to go out and catch them for breakfast.
When I was a kid, I fished allot on the pier at Navarre, FL. The man who ran it for a while would wheel out a fryer mid morning after the morning run was over. He brought out his own special recipe of meal. You could take him a fish and he would cook it for you right on the end of the pier.
You been up since 4:30 and fished hard. Its 10:30, your starving and you get some FRESH fish without having reel in your lines. He also did some hush puppies. This is where I first had blues and sea run mullet. Both are good. Mullet, very fresh is awesome.
Nobody would do anything like this today because of liability. Sad. _________________ Catch, Release, Catch, Release |

| Thanks Johnny, I am trying to figure out if I can smoke it without actually having a smoker, just do it on my pit at very low heat off to one side or something. |

I've always heard that the mullet from the surf are good to eat but the ones from the back bays do not taste as good.I've never felt hungry enough to try it for myself though. _________________ See ya on the beach.......Krash

That wasnt me. I got stuck at the 15 sunday morning. I stopped on what looked like solid sand and there was water underneath and I sank about 4 inches real quick. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.

I believe the mullet in Fla and the E coast are a different breed than ours, so I've been told. I do know for a fact that our Tx mullet don't fry up worth a darn. Tried it once, never again.(a sick friend )...............Kyle
I caught a chest full of Bluefish this weekend so I hope they are good. I'm gonna try one, and if it's no good I'll freeze the rest for bait...I hear Makos like Blues................Kyle _________________ I fish, therefore, I am................Happy! |

Got a brother who lives in Navarre. He doesn't fish, but has a neighbor who sight-casts for pompano off a pier at Navarre Beach.
In the early 70's, had smoked mullet from the panhandle of Florida, as well as fresh fried mullet filets and gizzards at Cedar Key. Liked them all, so was sorely disappointed when I tried to eat Texas mullet. These were all the same species, striped mullet, so I guess there's something different about their diet in the Western Gulf. |

Rabbit,
A friend of mine has warned me about the situation you were in, where the sand looks solid but turns out not to be. I was just wondering if the vehicle you were in a 2 or 4WD.
I'm still in the learning process of driving down the beach and like to learn from others peoples experiences and know what to ecpect if I was to ever get into a situation.
Thanks....FS. |

Very important on those extremely low tides not to park where you see the ghost shrimp holes. It is easy to get stuck there even with four wheel drive.
Be Careful!

I had a weird dream about getting stuck on PINS last night. For some reason I thought I should drive out to the first bar and fish out the window.
Anyway, glad to hear someone was around to help both of those guys. If I am ever down and see someone who needs help, I won't hesitate, knowing it could be me at the other end someday! _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
