I have two of the older models. Have not bought the new one that is supposed to be lighter and more sensitive. I like both the rods I have and have not had any problems. The rod I like best of all I own are my
Falcon rods.

I too have nothing but good things to say about my 6'6" Falcon medium casting rod. Unfortunately I have not heard so many good things about the TTF line up. I also looked into them not too long ago and a few other folks persuaded me to go with the falcon which is in the same price range that you mentioned. Right around christmas time, TTF was having a buy one get one free deal on their older series. Not sure if that is still being offered but you might want to check it out. Personally I would rather have one piece of equipment I can count on than two that I am unsure of.

I have a Lone Star Coastal Series Rod
LSCS701MLS, Length 7'0" Medium Light Action Spinning, Line Wt: 6 - 12 lbs., Lure Wt: 1/16 - 3/8 oz (red killer) I compared it to the Castaway. It's
a super light weight rod you can throw all day long. I bought it for throwing
light soft plastics in the back water.

While I can't comment on the TTF rods, I have my Diawa Coastal on an All Star Coastal Series "Surf Special", 8ft., medium action. Same price range it seems.
Very light and comfortable.

I have 4 ttf rods. 2 are the Texas series red tamer 1's and 2 are the supreme series that I just bought in November. TTF did have the supreme series rods buy one get one free until the end of December but Roys may still have some or is having a special. I love the rods they feel good, are lightweight and have a good back bone. I talked to the guys over at Tackletown in Rockport and they say they have seen very few rods come back for anything. The Supreme Series rods are a steal at buy one get one free. The TTF website has the tamer 1 buy one get one free for 49.95 as well but that was in January I think.

I also have the Daiwa Coastal magged by Nick and it performess flawlessly. The lightweight reel and rod work well together and you can fish all day with out getting wornout.

I use a TTF rod for both trout and jetty fishing. I have been very impressed with it. Reasons:

1. It is great for trout fishing.

2. Using it on the jetties in the winter, it brings in the hearty fish with no
problem.

3. I use a 4300ss Penn spinnign reel on it.

It it ain't broke, don't fix it.
