| I'll go with Flakman, brand don't matter as long as you take care of it, wash the underside thoroughly, you'll get dirty and wet, but you have to get the sand out, the newer trucks are a pain, lots of hidey holes and crevices, forget the car washes. Wash your trk in a car wash, then crawl underneath it, you'll see what I mean. I kept a Ford on the beach this way for 22 years. Take care of your vehicle and it will take care of you. Allen |

GO light. In the sand and on the gas bill. Try a small pickup I recommend the Tacoma. I drive an F150 single cab 4x4 its light and I glide through the sand but my gas mileage sucks because of the lift and tires. _________________ Texas Texas YEE HAW !!!!! Hook 'EM!!!! |

I have driven 2 Int. Scouts, Blazer, Bronco, 2 Samurias, 02 Jeep wrangler, Chevy P/U down at PINS. My experience long wheelbase= smoother ride, coil springs= smoother ride. Striaght axle in front more durable. ( I have not owned a new model IFS, keep in mind) Main thing to me is a posi or locker rear, posi front and NO mud grips, ATs or street tread. I preferr street tread my self.
I loved the fuel mileage of the Samurias, hated the narrow track always one side in the rut and the other not. Sometimes in the Jeep too. My next one will be fullsize |

| 1)lighter is definately better. 2)AT's are nice and help float on top. MT's will burry u quick. 3) a locker or posi in the rear will work wondrs. i dont remember the last time i used 4x4 on pins. even on busy weekends with idiots in the middle of the main road. 4) a well maintained cooling system is a must. coming home (north) with a 30mph wind at your back doesnt allow for very good air circulation through the radiator. also the racks that hold your 150qt. cooler up in front of your radiator can kill ya. always take extra water. 5) as stated before... clean the damn thing thoroughly whenever u get off the beach..... other than that the company doesnt matter... buy something you're familiar with that u can work on. cause if it breaks down, you may be on your own for a while.... thomas |

| I love my '03 Tundra. It works great on the beach as well as the pavement. I bought it for the reliability because I drive almost 30k per year. |

I love my 82 4x4 Longbed Chevy and I'm really nuts over my 01 Trooper 4x4. Tires that provide enough floatation and common sense will take you any where you want to go. Jeep Wagons are awesome as well. I had the Cherokee Laredo Package 4x4, inline fuelinjected 6, BFG tires. Couldn't get it stuck if I wanted to. _________________ BigDaddy

I'm on my second Nissan Pathfinder, never been stuck in sand in either one, but did sink it in the OSO mud last week, my brother in laws Tundra didnt have the nads to pull it out, had to resort to my 74 International to get it out! The latest Pathfinder, an 03 has loads of power, and gets 17 mpg on the beach with plenty of comfort! _________________ Standards I have, its morals I lack! |

My '99 GMC Suburban did me well for several trips a year for 6 years, never stuck. Got a '05 Chevy Z-71 now and it seems like it is going to work just as well, maybe even seems to handle a little better than the suburban did on PINS.

| I wouldn't say that . I have seen several 4 X 4's stuck on Padre Island. I saw one get stuck just stopping near where I was parked in Big Shell. He had a buddy traveling with him who pulled him out. |

| Contrary to touting what I own, I would steer away from something like what I've got unless you're a glutton for punishment. I have an '05 F250 with the V-10. It will bulldoze it's way through just about anything, but soft sand doesn't make for an economical trip down the beach. I filled up at the last Circle K before PINS, went all the way to the south end and BARELY had enough gas to get back. If the sand had been any softer south of the 15mm, we probably wouldn't have made it without an extra tank or a good push... My truck has it's place - in front of a trailer and a boat - but not down the beach too often. 20-30 miles down the beach is fine, but not much more. |

4x4 wont do anything on the pins if you dont have the right tires. _________________ FEAR NO FISH |
