Arrived to NoPac around 8:00 a.m. and stopped about midway of the jetties. Casted a Penny Gulp Shrimp to the side of the surf about 5 times and nothing. Decided to cast into the channel side and the saltwater "piranhas" (piggy perch) quickly started devouring my gulp shrimp. I casted what was left of the gulp into mid channel and to my surprise, my rod went off! The monster nearly took out all my line. Finally brought it in near the rocks and a nice gentleman helped me land the fish into his net. He measured the red at 29 inches; my personnel best. Walked up to "The Bluff Rat", Chris, who was just a few feet north from me. I felt like I had run into a celebrity! I asked him if it was a legal fish and he advised me that I could either release the fish or tag it. I decided to tag it and yes, it will be mounted. I ended up catching a couple of small snooks which were immediately released. Moved to BHP and caught plenty of whities for dinner. Current was strong and plenty of log debris along with tons of jellyfish. Surfers were plentiful as well but kept me entertained while fishing.

ive seen tons of slot red mounts, whats wrong with one just a lil over slot, if i was gonna mount a red it would be in the 27-30 inch range, i say go ahead and mount it would make a nice addition to any home

Good looking red and tasty looking whiting! The red will balance nicely on the wall with the 30" trout you put up there next year! Very Happy

I have a friend down in Brownsville who during this past summer took some taxidermy coarses up in San Antonio. He has been dying to work on anything but he hasn't been able to catch a nice sized fish. So I he is willing to "practice" on my catch for no cost to me. I'll post up pictures once he is done.
