Check out this video from the CallerTimes: About walking the 1800-ft from proposed parking lot to jetty:

Next time they need to get a real ice chest and put something in it. Oh and maybe some tackle.

They must really think we're freaking retarded. A empty ice chest like that weighs about 1/2 pound, a little spinning rod and reel and a chair in a bag, so she carried 5 pounds. I would like to see those two liberal you know whats carry my fishing gear 1800 feet. What was she going to hook on her line? What bait was she going to use? Why carry an empty ice chest? Was she going to drink salt water? Maybe she already had!!!!!.

Yep, she carried 4 pounds 1/3 of a mile to the jetty.

Now try it again with my 45 gallon ice chest, full to the top, my four fishing rods, my 25 lbs of tackle, my 5 gallon bucket of live shrimp, and my chair. Bet she wouldn't even get 15 feet.

Worse thing, they just walked to the jetty, now walk out to the end too.

That looked like one of those cheapo cools if you put anything in it it would break. Best part is they think we are stupid enough to believe that when in reality they are showing just how stupid they are and they are too stupid to realize it. Laughing Laughing Laughing

That was by far the freakin' stupidest thing I have ever seen!! They even said "it was a bit exhausting" and "they did it on the coldest day". Come on people!! Try it on a summer day with at least a bag of ice in the cooler, some real fishing gear and then try to do it while keeping an eye on a couple children!!! That was only a demonstration of what morons some people that work for Caller Times truly are. If anything that video only helps the anti-closure movement.

That's so ridiculous I doubt anyone who has ever fished anywhere at all or even just been to the beach knows that was a bogus example.

They proved our point though. Its a very long way and tiresome even if your not carring much and will keep people from using it, making it a Defacto private beach.

Ridiculous. If they really wanted the right information on what fishermen take they would have had David Sikes write that article but he has been ostracized by the editorial staff because he already came out against this ordinance.
She had no tackle box( anyone knows when you fish the jetty you lose loads of tackle), nothing in the ice chest, and one trout rod. A keeper red would not even fit in that ice chest and most folks keep fish in a different ice chest than their drink and snack ice box. Putting her on that article is like having Sikes do a story on women's fashions. Yes you could go out there with a small trout rod and lures but most jetty fisherman carry a lot more. Minimum two rods in case on malfunctions, one trout rod and one for Bull reds or small sharks, an ice chest for drinks, one for fish. Anyone who really fishes would carry a complete tackle box, a five gallon bucket and cast net, 5 gallon bucket with Mr. Bubbles aerator and live shrimp. That doesn't even begin to tell the story of shark fishermen who have much heavier gear.
The real walk for those who fish the South Jetty at Port A starts when you get on the rocks. That is not counted in this either which is why it is bunk. Since the folks who are pushing this are real estate folks, title companies, and stakeholders who obviously aren't fishermen this will stand as their argument.
The travesty isn't that it is too far a walk to get there but the fact that you even HAVE to walk to get there. They promised the surfing and fishing community when JP Luby was lost and even showed on the diagrams that there would be 140 parking spaces next to the jetty, bathhouses and a park. Then suddenly that is scrapped so one developer can segregate the tourists from the locals and that is absolutely tragic. If they can do that what is going to keep them from pulling the promised amenities on the North Jetty?

Plus a case of beer, wont be worth a damm to fish there unless you can pull up to it. Read in todays paper where they want to use a tram system to "haul" people & gear to the jetties. What a bunch of Idiots! cant be serious.

And who pays for the tram exactly?

If it Schexy, then guess what it comes off the top line that goes to the city, so indirectly the taxpayers pay. If it is the city, then taxpayers pay directly. Either way, taxpayers are responsible.

I hope that tram has a ton of storage room!

That tram idea is horrible. It is a huge waste of money and will be out of service after a year or two. If we are losing the beach, might as well fight for the closer parking lot idea.
