|
|
I've been reading recently, on several different threads, references to "tourists" and their less than desirable habits. I used to live in Corpus Christi and sprent many a day making those same type comments and now live in an area (Irion Co.) that is in the heart of some big buck, quail and turkey country in West Texas. Starting now thru May, there will be plenty of "tourists" in our little village, so by asking this question, I'm NOT wearing my feelings on my sleeve.
So... what is a "tourist"?
Do I get a pass because I USED to live in Corpus Christi? I could pass for a local now if by myself, but if I bring my family, I'm sunk.
How LOCAL does one have to be? Is a CC resident a tourist in Flour Bluff?
How FAR do you have to drive to become a tourist?
Does taking VACATION DAYS make one a tourist?
If you pitch a tent, or stay in a motel or condo, are you a tourist?
Is being a tourist more about HOW you fish or boat? Inexperience, wrong gear, lack of etiquette, and nothing to do with locale?
I'd just like to hear some opinions. And remember...there are lots of "tourists" who read this forum. |

I tour the Bluff all of the time usually on Mullet hunts so call me a tourist!
You know every time I go out on the island or to Port A it feels like I am on vacation so again call me a tourist! |

we the island people have recipicol agreements with the bluff, most of cc proper and even some outlying areas (SA, Austin to name a few). the agreement says if you allow us & ours, we will tounge in cheek , allow you & yours. complaining & nagging is allowed as long as you smile and furnish the cold brews. have a great holiday and remember our troops in your own way. _________________ ccbobber |

All Bluffians are tourists. They're definitely not from this planet. _________________ certified whiting slayer |

bk....guilty of profiling as charged!
When I see a rig pull up at the quik-stop with 4 four-wheelers, 16 coolers and 3 deer with a combined weight of 90#....I profile! |

Not sure about the definition of a tourist, but the definition of a snowbird is a person that shows up in Flour Bluff in the fall wearing a t-shirt with a dollar in their pocket, and they never change either one. _________________

A tourist is any person practicing tourism
However here is my personal top 10 tell signs.
#10 Has to study the Whataburger Menu before ordering.
#9 leaves the clicker on when they cast
#8 Buys frozen mullet bait instead of a cast net
#7 Cuts in line at the Port Aransas Ferry and then asks "where do you pay?"
#6 Forgets to set the drag and looses there pole in the surf
#5 Drives past the 17MM at PINS with a 2 wheel drive
#4 Tries to take the 7PM Jetty boat back from ST Jo island
#3 Drives there new truck through the wade gut for fun
#2 Buy’s Hard Heads from the Crab Man as saltwater catfish
#1 Looks like this
Lol in the Thong,

Can't resist adding a few to the growing list. Don't forget these...
1. driving a 4x4 on 20's and getting stuck in the dunes at JP
2. parking right next to you at the beach when there's a mile of clear beach both ways
3. leaving your trash and your dead shrimp on the jetty at the end of the day
oh and here's a few for the snowbird list...
1. driving 45 mph down the stretch to Port A and refusing to slide over to the shoulder to let me pass.
2. fishing out of a 14ft Lund in the middle of the ship channel with 5 people on board wearing type I lifejackets
3. wearing " I heart Port A" shirts everywhere you go
My best snowbird story to date was watching an old couple in a ford crown vic get hit by another old man in an f-350( w/ a ranch hand front bumper)....at 5 mph....
I laughed all the way home after watchin that, and when the cop showed up he was having trouble not laughin too! _________________ “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life.
