I took my money for an 8 day stay at Matagorda Bay Nature RV Park. Camped right on the Colorado River a short walk from the Gulf. It was great. I don't know why I haven't been there before but I'll be back. The surf was blown out all except a short while Friday and Saturday. I caught gaff top catfish, black tip shark, sting rays and a first for me were specs on cut mullet. I caught 3 dozen mullet with one throw of the net in the ditch along the road going to the park.

The river was full of bait of every kind. I saw a few snapper, flounder and plenty of whiting pulled in on the small piers in the park. All I caught from the pier were hard heads and whiting. There were plenty of crabs for the taking. I guess I'll be getting some crab traps now that the wife said she would clean them.

Ike took out the main pier to the north jetty.

Don't know what this but it looked cool.

View from the trailer.

Out of focus but so was I. L

I did see tug boats pushing barges around as I went over the bridge, but I can't say for sure that the locks are open. L

Locks were open a couple of weeks ago but they had the east side pulled completly out and were working on it by the corps building. lol That pic of the pier would not have been taken from that spot a few years back it would have been water there . Matagorda has sanded up so bad here lately and in dier need of dredging or something, I have heard talks of a new jetty that is going to be put in but dont know for sure. also I dont know if you can see it anymore but there is a small jetty just down from the park there that used to be in the water and is now covered in sand.

Yep,
That's Matagorda. Great fishing for reds and sharks and trout at times. I think I have been there 10 times with Flakman, Skipper and the SFCCI gang and only saw green water in the surf once or twice though BaitBoy and Flak had an Epic Day for Bull Reds one Monday after we left. Very Happy

Great area. What day was the pic taken of the population of Bay City out on the beach? Hope school starts up soon. That LCRA campground is one of the neatest ones around. Good report.

I don't think the locks are fully functional

I believe they open them real early for an hour or so and dont re-open them again until the late afternoon. I could be wrong though

The beach picture was taken last Saturday and this area is in front of the condos to the left of the beach access. The beach condition was horrible. People were driving in front of the camps and sometimes into the water to get out. By Sunday everyone figured it out and there was no one there. They gave us a large berth because we kept pulling up huge sting rays. I didn't mind though we had a large group of college girls camped next to us.

The locks are functional, but 85 percent of the time none of the tows are locked because the water level on the west and east sides of the river are just about the same, necessitating the need to lock.
