We blasted off from the dock at 0600, the tide was really low with tips of grass sticking out of the water. It was the first chance I've had to get my good neighbor Scott out on the flatz. This was his first time to experience the lagoon and do some fishing with artificals, and of course IMS. When Scott isn't flying the Oakland A's around or Bob Dyland , or some other rock group, he's just like us .....he's doing honey do's. When we arrived at our first destination we started off with some Rapala skitter walkers. I started off telling him how to work them and other advise like I usually do with a first timer. I made my first cast it went about a mile and I started working it, Scott made his first cast and it landed about 71/2 ft from the boat, I just kinda rolled my eyes and then BLAM!!! He caught a speck, on a top, his first try. Can you believe that? I told him well now you know whats it like when a trout hits a top. Later i decided to hunt some reds. We found them a 100 yrds away along with tons of bait working in a channel. So I started him on the art of plastics...yep, his first red a tagger, 29 inches long. One problem...he left his licence at home. Man was he upset. He had to let his first red go....didn't make much difference we were in a school of oversize reds. I got 3 trout and a red in the box and then we left. Tomorrow will be better .

Scott with his first red...he had a great first trip. He's a good hand in the boat and is very fast learner or he's just reel lucky. Or it's the teacher, yeah its the teacher. Wink

Great post there, IMS! Great to see you on the water again after the big move. I had that "beginner's luck" once but it wore off fast. Crying or Very sad I went through a dry spell but now, I'm back to catching some fish. I'll post when I get back from a non-fishing trip.

Sorry I didn't help with your move. I got busy with my wife's recovery (kidney stones). She's doing fine now, thank the Lord. Keep up the great posts! My fishing time is more limited now and I need those reports and pics to keep me going. Have a great Sunday, everybody!!! Cool

Scott, it's like flying:

1. Bring license, don't leave home without it.
2. Fish more, you have a minimum amount of cast and retrieves to stay current.
3. Less Honey Do's, refer to line item # 2. Very Happy Very Happy
