Went out early to Lone Star Reef, well we couldn't find any structure with depthfinder but GPS said we were there. Fished some live piggies there with no luck. Worked our way back and we tried the piggies at a few rigs still no luck.
About the only consistent thing we have seen is kingfish will hit ribbonfish trolled behind the boat, but not that big a fan of kingfish. Looking for some strategies for other species.
There was something hitting bait on the top of the water for miles but we couldn't get them to take lures trolled behind the boat. Not sure what they were but there was plenty of them and some blowups were big. |

We chased the different pods and at first figured them to be kings, so we threw all sort of lures and jigs at them. We eventually saw what looked like bonita crashing the party. A few of them jumped out of the water as kings do when in a frenzy chasing bait and we are pretty sure they were bonita...Interesting enough they never hit anything we threw at them either....
As for other strategies the old faithful of tying up to a rig and chumming seems to create all sort of fun....we caught some lane snapper, triggerfish and kings this past weekend using this simple technique...good luck out there! |

Thanks for the response, we will try the chumming next trip.
As for the rest of you! Over 300 views and one response. I know there are some knowledgeable offshore folks around. Thanks in advance |

in my experience with big schools of bonita like that, the only thing they have taken is a very small diving rapala trawled about as fast as you can without it coming out of the water. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
