| I guess the few times that I have had the opportunity, I was fortunate. The guide put us on the fish. I have never been with one that fished constantly. A few have fished a little and were more that willing to help the client out first. Better luck next time. |

| I'm no guide.. But I take a lot of people fishing.. Just the other day i was nailing them on somebody else's boat from the back of the boat.. The way the boat was positioned with the current and a free line the back was where it was at.. Guess what I did.. I stepped back and pointed where to cast.. If I caught a nice red. Guess what.. I handed my pole over to my friends.. I catch fish all the time. i have no problem handing off a 9 lb red so somebody else can have the enjoyment that I care so much about.. |

Thats weak. I would of casted right over the captains head. Should of booked a beach or nearshore trip wit Capt. Billy. I bet some big game fishing would be alot more fun then reds n drum. _________________ -Mando |

I know that no guide will contest the fact that their dream charter puts them back at the dock with a limit of specs and reds in the cooler by 10 am, especially during the summer. I also know that no guide wants their clients back at the dock with an empty cooler after getting skunked all day, I've seen guides pitch in to help put fish in the boat if clients are unable too for whatever reason, typically if they get a bite they hand the rod off to the clients and let them reel the fish in. Whatever the case, I'd still say even a bad day fishing beats a good day at work |

| I would push that old woman guide in the water and take over her fishing spot . There is no excuse for her behavior . I am only kidding but she would get a ear full and no damn tip . |

Personally, I prefer netting fish, baiting hooks, and taking pictures. This means that the clients are catching all of the fish and not the guide. If I'm catching fish, and the clients are not, I try to help with instruction. I don't mind casting and setting the hook for them upon request either. If the only fish being caught were from the back of the boat, sounds like the boat was not anchored in the right place
If your paying to fish with a guide, it a good idea to communicate with him or her before the trip. _________________ Grind |

Sometimes you have to go thru a few bad guides to get to the good ones. I have had my share of bad guides but I think there are many more good guides.
Your guide might help find the fish but the boat should be positioned where everyone can reach them if not, a GOOD guide would move people around to get everyone in the action.
I hear alot of good things about Capt. Mike but have yet to have the pleasure of fishing with him but I will soon. |

| Quote: | | There were 3 of us and our guide stood at the back of the boat and hauled in one fish after another, including 3 - 25" reds and countless drum. I finally just put my pole down and watched. We ended up with 1 redfish, 2 sheepshead, and 4 drum. Needless to say, I was really pissed. But I still didn't have the nerve to say anything. What do ya'll think? |
Did each of you end up with this limit, or was this limit split between the 3 of you?
I have never fished with a Salt water guide unless you count Private Charters of about a dozen folks and going off shore.
I have however fished with Fresh Water guides for Striper and sandbass, and they have always done everything humanely possible to put their clients on to fish.
I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like your guide? made a judgement call and decided that you guys could not fish the way she wanted you too, so figgered that she would catch you alls fish for you.
Whether hunting or fishing, I see and know of way too may folks that allow a guide to intimidate them.
The guides job is to put their clients on to fish or game, and help them as needed to have a good time and enjoiy the trip.
In your case it sounds like the guide took it upon herself to see that you all went home with fish, regardless of whether they were caught by you or not.
This is a case, where, since you were one of the clients, instead of putting your rod down, you should have went to the back of the boat and told your guide to either start putting your group into a position to catch fish, or she was not going to be paid for the trip.
You all paid for the priveldge of catching fish or trying to, not to watch your guide catch fish for you. JMO. _________________ It is impossible to speak in a manner where you can not be misunderstood. |

Why not mention the guide's name so no one else uses her?
That's kinda what these forums are for. |

How about we use the guides from this site such as Capt Billy, Capt Singleterry, Capt. Black, Capt Frank, Reelbeast, Capt Rowsey, Ace in the Hole and the other recommended guides rather than slam anyone. |

Good one Tyler - I would like to throw in Fishman's Guide Service. There is no fishing from the back of the boat since you will be in your own kayak You can stand if you want or if you can and he can see the fish a good distance away. 2 great trips with him. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot.
