Well I just can't leave it all to rabbit so I think I'll fish out of Bird and prob run down the Island to use the long rods. Mind my Ps and Qs and see what happens.

I will prob have to fish in waders while in the laguna, seems I cut up the back of my leg on a rock this weekend and I don't want to tangle with any bacteria so I'll be hot but worth it if we catch a few and don't have any problems.

Here is another way to think about it. The drug dealers are having a hard time at the regular border crossings due to drug dogs and such, so they may have turned to more shore drops on Padre. What better cover for a drug runner than posing as a fisherman....all those ice chests, door panels and such as easy stashes for the drugs that they picked off the beach [deposited there by boats]. If a ranger asks to search your vehicle, and you say, "Sure", I'm guessing it would be a pretty brief search. Saying "No" may be your right, but it would also raise a red flag in the mind of a ranger.

In all my years of fishing and going to PINS, I've yet to encounter a ranger or game warden who was anything but nice. I wonder if it is the attitude/behavior of the person being stopped that may bring out the more aggressive behavior in the ranger/warden?

Last summer I had just pulled off the sand and started making my way back towards the guard shack. As I turned a corner, there was a ranger about to pull out. Just to make sure, I checked my speed...45mph, my buddy Shane who was riding shotgun looked over too. Well, the guy proceeds to pull out behind me and pull me over. He walked up with his hand on his pistol and told me to get out of the car. He stated that we were going over 60mph and he wanted to search the vehicle. I told him that he could not- we were doing nothing illegal, but I have gotten very tired of giving these jerks free reign over my rights. We were obviously fishermen, loaded up with tons of shark rods, a kayak, and a tower on the back of the truck. I informed him that I had a concealed permit, but was not carrying. He repeatedly tried to gain access to my vehicle, and after 10 minutes of him lecturing me, let us go. His name tag read "Grenade", and he had a full sleeve of tats on one arm. He also pulled my younger brother over a couple months later and accused him of DUI, which was untrue, and finally let him go. Looks like they are stepping up their game...anyone know this ranger?

By the way, I am a very nice and respectful guy...many rangers have been great towards me, but some have come across as a cop on a power trip.

yup there are two sides to the story..
i have been pulled over and harrassed by the lousy sob.. was nice to him, polite, and even laugh at his acusations.. but we dont see the bs that they do go through and half the other bs that goes on at the beach...
but.. and this is a BIG BUT..
for them to harass us as they have done and others..
sounds like we need to get our camera phones and video cameras and start recording there actions.. as for escondito or pendejo or what ever you want to call the el jeffe stupido.. there is something else at work here that we are not getting to the bottom of..
i have been fishing pins since the 70's as a little kid.. and since the 90's make several trips down there each year.. thank God i was not drunk when i got pulled over only had maybe 2 beers.. in me mrs was slow to open the ice chest and fill my coozie up. Rolling Eyes

but we need to report this to park headquarters and we know it dont go anywhere, but they must make reports... but dont stop there, local media, state and federal reps need to be brought up to speed..
maybe we can get one of out fishing friendly reps, go down in a couple of different vehicle type... nice rich kids tricked out truck.. grandpas old reliable and then the poor mans banged up barely runs rig and see how many times he gets pulled over by this renagade outlaw carring a badge to harrass..
then maybe the most of the jerks can get fired...
or better yet since it is federal.. and it technically is an illegal border crossing just let border patrol regulate the beach.. at least we know they have dogs.. they do there job fairly well and have a reason to keep there hands on their guns.. at least they only shoot you in the back when running away (but you diserved it anyways) not bend you over and do you rough and throw you in jail for no reason

Did a shark trip to the 30 over memorial day weekend. Never saw a ranger or hassled by anyone. (and tried my best to go 15 but couldnt like everyone else.)
