IMS, Fishing is fun but the road trip will be talked about forever. I took 2 road trips with my daughters one daughter 15 years ago from Minneapolis to Las Vegas and the other 12 years ago from Oakland to Fairbanks. PRICELESS!!!!!!
Have a safe trip.

Well the trip is one week out. Very Happy

We have a couple of spots that are up for grabs if anyone wants to get in on the trip. It will have to be first come first served. Please send me a PM and I'll give you the details.

Keep an eye on the wave forecast. Its been 8 to 10 the last few days but the forecast calls for significant reduction by next week. Too far out to bet on though.

I was checking out the winds as well. It does look like it will be letting up a bit by the weekend. We have our fingers crossed for our trip on Saturday. If you guys don't see my "Pelican Brief" by noon Monday give this thread a bump to remind me and I will give you the details. Good luck to all. Very Happy

This is a bit morbid, perhaps, but those who were looking for a way out of work on May 5 to go on the deep sea fishing trip......well....all the news stations are telling people not to go to work if they are feeling sick.....don't want the flu being spread around.

LET'S GO FISHING... SOON Exclamation

The Bobber is getting a little anxious, ya'll.
So for the lucky 20 that ponied up the cash here's the scoop...

Date: May 5th.
Place: Deep Sea Headquarters
Time: Arrive at the dock by 5:30 AM (Bobber says he'll be there by 5:00AM... I told you he is anxious).
Boat: The New Pelican (the old Pelican with new engines and A/C)
Departs: 6:00 AM
Returns: 6:00 PM

I thought funmeters1 covered the punch list pretty well, so I'll run it again.

Take your Dramamine the day before or stick on a patch 12 hours before launch.

Personal coolers with food and water are OK. Limit the beer we don't want to be fishing any drunks out of the Gulf.

Leave the large coolers on shore for transportation of fish home. Ice is available across the street.

Be prepared to tip the Crew about $25 more if you have a really good time. Tips can be collected on the trip back to port and given by the host to the Captain where he can work the split based on the rules of the boat.

Fish cleaning is available for 40 cents a pound live weight. It is cut and bagged.

Bring proper clothes rain gear if predicted. Gloves to prevent blisters from reeling in fish. Really, I got a couple big ones my last trip out.

Bring good deck shoes as it does get slippery.

Bring good sunglases and a good sun screen. On a sunny day you WILL become extra crispy if you don't use it.

Bring a good fitting hat.

Trust the boat will have the right equipment for fishing. It is the Mate that will properly rig all the poles for the targeted fish. Rigging can change several times during the trip.

Make sure how the catch is to be split BEFORE leaving the dock. On my last trip the common fish caught(Tuna,Snapper,Sharp Nose) were split evenly(as possible) among those fishing. Specialty fish like Cobia. AJ's and Dolphin is usually kept by the person catching it. It would be hard to divy up an AJ 20 ways.

Bring you camera!!

This is from FIDO, he's coming along too. He's one of the deck hands. Here is his input.

FIDO wrote:

funmeters1 pretty much covered it. The main goal is to have fun period and we'll do our very best I promise. Bring whatever ya'll want (within reason, a GPS is NO BUENO!) Food, beer, etc. It's 12 hours not 48 some people bring enough crap for a week. But it's always better to bring more than not enough. Bring your own tackle if you want but we have enough 6/0 for AJ's and what not. If we do hook a shark it will most likely be on our shark rod. So i'de leave the 80 at the house. The rod's we furnish are penn 4/0's. Of course bait is included too. I'm looking forward to meeting you all! Oh and your own ice chests are allowed, feel free to bring them(however 20 ice chests would be a hastle, id'e consolidate your stuff into a few ice chests). Also, we use our own fish box on the boat. All the fish will go in there marked with the initials of the fisherman who caught them. so dont worry about fish storage. A good way to do it though is to bring some zip ties with tags and keep em on you, that or maybe some goofy color like pink or yellow to distinguish your fish once we get back and hang them for a picture.

Not sure what else to tell you. Everyone should be paid up for the trip but make sure to take some cash for tips and prize pools. If you signed up a friend please fill them in on the details above.

If you have any other questions please post them.
