I was turned onto this website site last night by a buddy. It's pretty cool. You can look up a fish and find out all sorts of neat stuff about it.

That's the one Topdog15 was talking about with the weakfish, spotted Seatrout discussion. It is really good. I use it all the time. There is a fish called the Corbina on the Pacific Coast of California and Baja that looks just like a huge whiting. Menticirrhus undulatus. The ones we have here are
Menticirrhus Americanus and Menticirrhus littoralis.

What ever happened to just using a good old dichotomous key I still have all of my books from Ich. Does anyone know if Dr. McGee is still out at TAMUCC? I graduated in 1999 and have not really been back over there |

I don't remember anyone every saying that a speckled trout was a plain old weakfish. I know that I said it was a SPOTTED weakfish.
Just clearing the air.
Tyler, I also mentioned the Corvina in that last "speckled trout" discussion and according to the site in question it is one and the same as the Corbina that you mentioned [which I already knew] but just goes to show how confusing some of this can get! _________________ Dave

Dr. McKee is still teaching Ich at the college. The key is a great idea b/c it uses scientific names and avoids all confusion caused by the use of common names. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

At one time they stocked Corvina in Lake Braunig and possibly Lake Calaveras here (near San Antonio). Evidentally, like Redfish, they can live in fresh water, but will not reproduce. Years ago they were catching some BIG Corvina there occasionally. It has been quite a few years ago and I doubt there are any left now. _________________ Big Ed
