That's SOP for smokers. Just look at the area around any traffic light: the curbs are covered with butts! When I see someone throw a lit butt out the window in front of me I flash my brights in their rear view mirror. It may do nothing at all but if 1 out of 10 of them realize that someone is back there and actually GIVES A CRAP, they may rise from their nicotine induced stupor and think twice next time........................... but I doubt it. _________________ Dave

I smoked for about 46 years and have quit now for 1 1/2 years. One thing I still say is smokers have RIGHTS also. California is going to pass a law if there is a forest fire---it can't smoke. All non-smokers can move there. Longhorn |

Carry a bottle of water in the car/truck with just a little water left in it. Screw off the cap and put your butts in the bottle. Problem solved. Throw away and replace as needed. _________________ Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggie" until you can find a rock.

My trucks came with these things called ashtrays. I use them.
It's so dry up here in the hill country I'd be afraid to even tip the ash out the window.
I actually want to quit seriously bad. I've tried before and never made it past a month or so. About two packs a day right now.
Chantix just made me sick so I'm going to give the patch another try. _________________ "If you love something let it go. If it comes back to you gaff it and throw it on ice."

For you VERY FEW smokers who actually do use your ashtrays and good manner with your butts, good on ya, because you are the VAST minority!!!! All one has to do is use their eyes to tell that most don't!
A short story on smokers and their carelessness concerning their habit:
From 1967-1970 my dad was the CO of HMX1 in Quantico Virginia, the presidential helicopter squadron. It was one very tightly run ship and my old man was and still is a marine's marine and anal as all get out. You military folks out there, I shouldn't have to remind you of the expected protocol and display of your BEST manners when attending a function at the CO's residence. My parents had a squadron party once at their house. Big mistake! Even though EVERY ONE of the people there were subordinate to my dad and NOT in there own house, the next morning there were cigarette burns on the piano, various pieces of furniture and the carpet and cigarette butts thrown all over the place both in and out of the house.
It speaks for itself, but of course just like everything involving humanity, there are exceptions........................................ _________________ Dave

This is what me and my friends do when we party at the beach (which is all the time)..Go to Home Depot and buy a bunch of those cheap plastic pots for plants and fill them with sand. Put one near each end of the horseshoe area and a few out by the rod holders. Also set a few by the girls laying out in their beach chairs, and a few by the trucks. At the end of the day, just dump them into the nearest trash can, or into the nearest trash bag. It takes a few times to get used to doing it, but soon becomes a habit. Just like smoking.
later,
Ernie
P.S. I prefer to dip when I'm fishing. As far as driving, spitting out the window at 60mph is not cool...been there-done that-washed the truck. LOL _________________ " Good God, somebody get me a nurse " |

| I was driving off the island around 5pm and we made a detour to check out the blaze. It was pretty amazing. Heading towards port A, there were a couple spots where the fire was only a 20 or 30 yards from the road. I pulled over and rolled down the window and you could hear the fire and feel the heat. Pretty cool for a pyro like me. Shortly there after, a cop pulled up behind me, lit me up, and told me in no uncertain terms to "get the hell out of here." I can't fault the cop, it probably was not a very safe spot. So i had yes sir and headed out. But man, i wish I could have snapped a few pics. The thermal currents were sending ash and whatnot circulating into the air in an impressive manner. |

IMS, it WAS! That is such a high pressure job for EVERYONE at HMX1 and like I said, my dad is so freeking anal and ran that place like General Patton, there were more than a few who "let their hair down" when they had a chance to party!
It's nice to know that there are SOME smokers out there who get it! Very few I'm afraid.................................... _________________ Dave
