I noticed a bunch of work going on at the end of the road that goes to Kate's hole. It's the road just before the church. There are 2 bulldozers and it looks like they are moving a lot of dirt.
Anybody know what's going on???

If memory serves me correctly, someone on this board mentioned that a bunch of bay houses would be built. There goes another access.

I think only the area directly across from the state park through the channel is state. The rest of the land on that side is private, but regulary used by the public. I belive there is some law about regularly traveled routes through private land must remain in tact, but can't remember exactly what it states or if it would apply. Anyone out there know about this subject?

It is called a prescriptive easement. To be inforced, you have to prove the use in a court of law.

Have fun

LOL, you guys are all hilarious! The old well-pad (and the corresponding 53 acres of wetland south of the road) was purchased and donated to the Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (CBBEP) as part of mitigation for impacts to seagrass on the other side of the bay (I think it was Helix). part of the work is to scrape some of the fill out and down to adjacent seagrass levels. the fill is being placed on the road to improve its access. there will be a small primitive parking lot at the end. we will be able to continue to use the area, and it will be more friendly to 2WD. no additional area by deadmans will be sold for condos, that is almost the last tract to secure the entire west side of the island from packery all the way to fish pass by local conservation groups (the for sale sign on the north side of the road is the last one, however it is almost entirely wetlands and de facto state land, I doubt anything will be built there, like ever).

I agree. What is a wetland today isn't necessarily a wetland tomorrow. It has happened too frequently in Galveston.

you're right. what was a wetland in Galveston is now open water. what was people's living rooms are now wetlands.
