Same here, never go back to a oven baked turkey, this is the best way. Awesome flavor.
Plus a 12 pounder only takes 42min! & your done.

I fried 2 myself. One for us and one for ZebcoWillie, my fishing partner. They turned out great. Thanks Bluffer for the cottonseed oil answer. I used it and I couldn't tell the difference. Saved some money and they were super.

Oh yeah, I gotta tell yall about this one....

The wife made sweet potatoes that were out of this world, slap your momma good!!!!

She peeled & baked the sweet taters the day before and put them in the fridge. Then she took them out a bit before dinner and sliced them. She laid the slices in a baking dish. Then she boiled 1 cup of real maple syrup for 10 minutes. She added 1.5 cups of fresh cranberries to the syrup and boiled it for 5 more minutes. Poured that over the sweet taters and baked for 20 minutes to heat it through & through. OMG.... the best sweet potatoes I have ever eaten. I would add some pecans and more cranberries myself.

Too much cholesterol and too many left-overs in a whole fried turkey.

Got a 7-lb smoked turkey breast @ Moody's & warmed it in the broiler for Thanksgiving.

Just boiled the bones for stock, added a yellow bell pepper, some home-grown Jananese eggplant, a home-grown banana pepper, half a red onion (other half used earlier for turkey sandwiches), celery, Chinese cabbage, carrots, brown button mushrooms, Tabasco sauce, and a box of Rice River Farms Multi-grain Medley w/seasoning packet. If that doesn't cure the head cold that's coming on, I'll add more Tabasco Shocked .

Wrong, Cottonseed oil (along with peanut) is fat free, even sez so on the box.
left-overs? what left-overs!

Blufffer, my issues aren't with the oils (vegetable oils lack cholesterol), but with how frying versus roasting affects the calories, cholesterol, fat and saturated fat in a whole fried turkey when compared to just the light meat in a roasted one. I'll bet you ate way more than a 3-oz portion simply because you had a whole turkey and couldn't resist the opportunity to eat the dark meat and the crispy fried skin along with the light meat.

Food item
(3-ounce portions, unless specified) Calories Cholesterol (milligrams) Total fat (grams) Saturated fat (grams)
Turkey, light meat, roasted 119 73 1 0.3
Turkey, light meat with skin, roasted 139 81 3.9 1
Turkey, dark meat, roasted 137 95 3.6 1.2
Turkey, dark meat with skin, roasted 155 99 6 1.8
Deep-fried turkey, light meat 190 64 10.5 3.5
Ground turkey 200 87 11.2 2.9
Turkey gravy, 2 tablespoons 63 1 0.5 trace
Mashed potatoes (made with whole milk and butter), 1/2 cup 119 12 4.4 2
Bread stuffing, 1/2 cup 117 0 8.6 1.7
Cranberry sauce, 2 tablespoons 50 trace trace trace
Homemade pumpkin pie, 1/8 of a 9-inch pie 316 65 14 4.9

Yummmm... Smoked turkey can't be beat. Takes a long time but a combo of mesquite & oak... low and slow. That's good stuff. Very Happy

TH, I try to watch those calories and such everyday except Thanksgiving & Christmas. Gotta live a little to make life worth living.
