You should of hooked one of those bad boys up on a hook and tossed it in the 2nd gut!! Someone posted up awhile back they cleaned a red that had some in its gut!
On a serious note, we have got buckets full of live ones before in the surf when the tides way out. All the ones we have found were on the 2nd + sand bar. just go with the flow of the water scraping about a half inch below the sand. I was curious if they are always in the surf or if there are more during different parts of the year??? Sometimes we have found crap loads and other times nada.

| me and my wife were out there this past summer with the kids and were on the second sand bar and we would just dig out toes into the sand and find them and then dig them out. brought home 74 of them with the smallest being about quarter size and the biggest one being about 5 to 6 inches wide. |
