Howdy guys,

I'm in Pleasanton, I've got a small yak not a boat, and I've never gone after the Reds at Braunig and Calaveras, only just at the coast.

Do any of you have any suggestions for a newbie to those lakes?

Also any places from the shoreline during this time of the year would be great. Thanks for the help.

sign up on TKF (TexasKayakFisherman.com) and then ask to join the San Antonio Chapter. They have several yakkers that chase those big reds there. They can answer your questions.

If you go to the pennisula at Brauning on the side facing the dam go to the very end of the dam and throw rattletraps and spinnerbaits. You better hang on to your rod.

Go to dam area and all in front of the rest rooms are choice fishing on the banks. I caught big Spot Tails & Corvina (when they were around).

Wade out as far as u can stand it and loft ur bait as far as u can without flinging ur bait off ur hook. Crawdads and Tilapia are the go to baits.

If ur into arties, u may be catch some on topwater toys. Just watch & listen, the big schools will come around from the dam. Oh, u'll know because u'll hear all the comotion from other anglers and u will see the massive ripples the Spots will make.

Make no mistake, mostly likely u will get strikes when they make a pass as they cruise the shoreline. U may lose some good fish because of the rocky terrain. All this info is strictly for night fishing (summer months). Full Moonlite nights are very slow, don't waste ur time......good luck. Cool

I usually see guides trolling for them by the damns on both lakes.

What! ur saying Calavares is fished out? Too bad, it was fun yanking on them Spot Tail Carp with light bass tackle, other than that, not much challange as I gave up fishing the lake several years after the corvinas dissappeared.

You can catch reds til your arms are sore at the crappie wall if you know how to fish for them. Very Happy
