Noticed your avatar on a post.
My grandfather flew those for the Confederate Air Force when they were still in Harlingen. Pretty much flew everything they had. Killed in 74' doing touch and go's in a Catalina PBY.
My favorite aircraft-
1. PBY
2. B-47
3. B-17

Thanks Putaway! I took the photo here in Corpus out of the c-172. This company restores then goes around the country selling rides. The owner of this one said the plane broke in half during a storm when another plane was fliped on top of it. This happened in Conneticut.Took ten years to fix. I believe he has other planes but not sure what. Also noticed your in Austin. Live in Cedar Park then Jonestown awhile back. Son and wife is moving at the end of the month to CP. Starting an insurance agency. Later Don.

Hey putaway,
I was born/raised in the valley ('54 - 75), although I didn't know your grandfather, Iknew who he was, and vividly remember his crash/death in the PBY. My father was in the aviation business down there for 4 decades, and a longstanding member of the CAF (in harlingen). He knew your grandfather. Small world. I/we never missed their air show each year. Growing up in the business, I got my license at 18. I longed to fly (still do) the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, & P-38 Lightening. THOSE were aircraft. Too bad the jet engine was invented. Nothing like a V12, supercharged, Royals Royce 1700HP pulling you thru the sky at 500mph! Closest I ever got was flying the PT-17 (Steerman) one summer up & down coast each weekend. What fun that was! -Zano

Zano,
Richard Disney was my grandad.
Do you know Lefty Gardner? His P-38 got trashed a few years back in Mississippi. Not sure if it's flying again.
Funny,(not funny?)
Almost exactly a decade later C.A.F. lost another PBY in Laguna Madre. Killed all aboard. Not sure why I love that aircraft so much.
Me and my sister are the only two in the family that don't fly.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Add P-51 and P-38 to my list. Guess I was stuck on multi engine aircraft when I posted.

As far as jets go I can't help but be in love with this old beauty-
Out of commission since 69'

Hey dr nice, my Dad flew spit 9's in north Africa, and p-51's in Italy. I remember he brought home some of his gun film straffing a train in Italy. Now that was cool. When we went to a walgreens in Yuma, Az., during an air show, he stopped and asked if I heard that. No, I said, and a few minutes later a p-51 shoots overhead. All he said was once you've heard that v-12 you never forget it. What a memory. Thanks, longhorn
