| I'm looking to buy a Kayak or maybe two. My wife and I are both interested in getting a Kayak, tandem if we can find one, if not two similar models. Anyone have any recomendations. Thanks in advance, Brian |

| went to the demo days with jerry b and it was a great learning experience. It depends on what you want to spend, but the hobie "feet peddled" models were better than expected. I personally would have bought the tarpon 160 alghough it is a little hard to change directions. They have a model that can be changed from tandem to single man just by changing the seat placement...talk to Jerrys' guys they are more than trustworthy and will lead you in the right direction. |

2nd all that. got my Hobie from JerryBs and had nothing but excellent serv from there. Had some minor problems with my drive system after it was 10mo old & they gave a new mirage drive no problems. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

Those who have been doing this kayak fishing for years refer to tandem kayaks as "divorce boats". Believe me, you do NOT want to buy a tandem for the 2 of you. Get a boat for each of you. That way you fit the boats to each one to maximize your enjoyment. As well as paddling together you will also be able to separate and explore solo too.
The Tarpon line of boats are very good boats. I had T120 for my wife and I have t140 w/ a rudder currently. The T160 has to have a rudder to turn it but it glides better than any other fishing kayak on the market. The Hobies are great if you plan of fishing water 18" or deeper and you don't have long legs. Ocean Kayaks make reliable fairly stable boats but beware of the molded foot rests as some don't like them (me!!!). I have never been impressed with the way OK's paddle either. they seem pretty slow to me. Native boats are pretty cool. They have a couple of models that are canoe-kayak hybrids that are very comfortable. They also have the Mantas and redfish models that are similar to the Tarpon line.
I would stay away from the yaks at Academy. Go to JerryB's and visit with them. If you have a limited budget, look at used quality kayaks. The classified boards at TeaxsKayakFisherman.com is a great place to start looking. Then keep an eye out on Craigslist when you know what you want. I have sold all of my old kayaks on craigslist on the first day of listing them.
Good luck.... You are about to become an ADDICT!!!! |

two yaks,
try before you buy
Jerry B's or Wind and wave they care different stuff.
Or there is alot of used ones out there and yak's last a long time if taken care of.
The Ultimate 14.5. But two people in a yak means no fishing. The ultimate can be converted to a solo fairly easily.
The Malibu II ( & XL version) is a tandem but can be used solo too.
BUT GET Two yaks for your marriage's sake. |
