I have one and it's fine for shorter trips (under 6hrs) in back lakes and the bays.
It's does handle the ruff stuff pretty darn good. I would not be scared in some bad crap in mine. Excellent in the SURF!!!!
If you are a big man over 6' and over 250ish the seat well area might be a bit snug. It's always best to try before you buy.
If you have kids it's great for them.
It is not that fast though.
You can do alot of creative rigging to fix up a milk crate for rod holders and such.
I would like to get another faster yak for my self, but I will always keep the speck it's like a good ol' truck!
enjoy the addiction |

I bought one about 12-14 years ago and it was my first sit-on-top kayak and I loved it because it was extremely stable and would carry a lot of gear. I sold it about 2 years ago because I was accumulating too many yaks.

Chuck is right, it's great for short paddles and handles rough water well.
I just got back from the lake today with mine. Had some two foot white caps to deal with on the way back in. No sweat. I even fish from my knees in it to flip jigs in cover. That also works to take a nature break now and then. Try that in most yaks and you flip.

When I first got mine, I tested it in surf that was beyond my ability at the time and it performed like a trooper. I didn't have a lot of trouble keeping the bow pointed toward the beach and I had waves breaking over my head all the way back in (that was a rush I haven't repeated since).

If you don't mind me asking, how do you like your explorer? I am torn between the explorer and the navagator. _________________ Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.... |
