There is so much great information here. From reading alone I get answers that I need to know - to questions I never even thought of asking! All of you regular posters on this forum are truly unselfish when it comes to answering questions (from idiots like me) and sharing useful information, for the benefit of all who take the time to read and listen. And that useful information is by no means limited to fishing.
I registered with this forum last fall, while failing to recognize what I've come to learn is the proper method of introduction. I've really wanted to comment on many topics in the past few months, but the more I read and see the comraderie here, the more I've felt that I'd be crashing a family barbeque or something. Thus the "Mea Culpa".
So, I'm going to rewind here and introduce myself. Hello everyone, my name is Charles and I live in Austin. But more importantly I'm originally from Louisiana. I've lived in Austin and worked for The University of Texas System since 1981. And it looks like I'm out of space for this post! So thank you guys and gals and part 2 to come. Charles |

Welcome!
NO need for the mea culpa. This is not a family party, just a forum for sharing ideas and tips. Sure there are regulars but don't feel like you are not part of the party. This site can only exist if we have a large number of visitors whether they are lurkers, newbies, or Members of the order of Full Grown Flour Bluffians. For those of you in the Bluff, Mea Culpa means "my fault" in Latin |

Charles again. I'm a landscape architect (LSU 1976) and work for the UT System Office of Facilities Planning and Construction. My office manages the design and construction of all UT buildings for 15 campuses. I'm married to Lynn and have two daughters in college, which costs a lot more than when they were both in diapers. Lynn and I both love to fish, and our passion for fishing far exceeds our success at fishing, but we both enjoy so much about the coastal environment. And we're envious of those of you who are lucky enough to live in that environment.
We own a boat that we've kept at Cove Harbor Marina in Rockport for the past year and a half. I January we bought a vacation house in Aransas Pass. So, uh, I guess we're committed to being on the coast a lot. We're interested in all types of fishing - you name it - we'd like to learn and do it. And most of those interests I attribute to the great reading here. So it's YOUR fault. Hope to meet some of you sometime.
Many thanks to all. HELP, I'M A FINGER MULLET. charles |

Charles, welcome, for my part! Shucks guy, I live in Little Rock of all places [though I am a Corpus native] and except for one or two folks who's names shall be withheld to protect the guilty parties, this has always been a pretty darn friendly and welcoming forum. I too have gleaned much knowledge and may have even helped out from time to time. It's one of my very few daily visits as far as forums go.
Good luck on your fishing and enjoy the new vacation crib! _________________ Dave

When I opened this thread I was thinking it was either going to be about a new rum or tequila on the market, or a newly discovered flesh eating micro-organism. Learn something new every day........Welcome Sir!!! _________________ Grind |

| Hey Charles! What's the tree damage like on the campus today? The Capitol grounds are a mess. |

Ah - a homeboy. I work downtown in the system complex and all I know is that no tree fell on my office building, but I'll bet campus is pretty messy too. Was pretty scary this morning near Highland Mall. But not scarier than I experienced in the Land Cut last spring in a floating cabin. |

The same for me.....I have been a reader for the past 2 weeks and really enjoy the information posted. I too am a avid fisherman, but i only get to go 2-3 times a year. I currently live in Katy and work for the Harris County Flood Control District. I attended ATM and graduated in 99 with a degree in Wildlife Management. How flooding equates to wildlife management can make you scratch your head, but hey.
Anyway, I will be heading down to Rockport this weekend with the guys (friends i have known since Jr High and HS) and we will be concentrating our efforts around SE portion of CCBay, Redfish Bay Area, and possibly Aransas Bay. I will pass on the outcome of the trip and the areas that faired poorly and well. I hope that everyone does well with their fishing extravaganzas this week!! |

Sounds like a good group of us in the Austin area. I wish to add my thanks to all the regulars for the info and the "bench" fishing. Thanks also for the defining of "Mea Culpa". Knew it was "I scewed up" but it is nice to learn the real words. _________________ The Lord Bless and Keep You

Heck, we'll be caravaning and carpooling before you know it - I'm ending up with a lot less $$ at the end of the month recently. The broader definition of mea culpa is "acknowledging your failure to take responsibility for avoiding sin". Kinda like what you would hear from the thieves I've read about lately - after being caught. OK, sermon's over.
And I AM a travelling cajun restaurant. Grew up doing those fish courtbullions, jambalayas, gumbos and fricassees. Then I found some similar but better ingredients in the salt water.
Even if the fish aren't biting, I like it when you can catch dinner with a cast net. Shrimp potato salad anyone? |
