Through Fisherman's Wharf in Port A, I went deep sea fishing for my first time this past Saturday. Apparently the trip on the previous day experieced 7' swells, but on saturday the water was nice, calm, and clear. I think only one person on the boat provided chum. Lesson learned for that guy: don't drink all night before deep sea fishing!
I have to admit, bringing in vermilion snapper with what feels like a 2x4 isn't all that exciting. A few of the red snappers (that we had to throw back) gave a little more fight, but nothing compared to using light tackle. Alot of people kept grumbling about having to throw them back. For us, rules are rules, so we didn't complain. My buddy and I shared our catch and ended up with about 10 at the end of the day.
It was shoulder to shoulder with about 80 people all around the boat. So when someone caught an Atlantic Sharpnose Shark it turned into a cluster ____ (fill in the blank) as people kept refering to it. Minimum of 5 lines were tangled when 1 was brought in. Luckily I was the 1st one on the boat to bring on in. It was my highlight of the day and a good time to call it quits, avoid the cluster, and enjoy the day. Out of 80 people, only 9 sharks were brought in, so I felt special.
With some drum from a previous trip, we had a good little fish fry/grill that night. I'm sure glad someone recommended to buttermilk marinate the shark, cuz that stuff is STINKY.

| Were the deckhands good at getting the lines all untangled? They ususally do a pretty quick job. |

Yeah the deckhands were good, they took care of it all. Except for when they had to cut lines, everybody was back to fishing within a few minutes.
As far as the vermilion being tastier than red snapper, I haven't had a chance to compare, but I'm sure ya'll know what you're talking about. |
