Cast nets work, but push nets get shrimp quicker. Are they against the law? Haven't seen one in use for a long time.

Push net as in a saine??? I dont think so as long as its used to catch baitfish. But cast nets aofcourse work well for other small baitfish if youre needing live

One good thing about the castnet side of things. You may not catch many shrimp but you also won't catch ANY pinfish or other bait stealers while using them as bait!

Bayslammer/Joe....Boy that is a priceless trout. But help me out here.
I just might need to buy shrimp next week unless you have some waders I can borrow that will fit an 5 yr od and a 7 yr old. Might even need you to come by Clems and help me with casting lessons it we're going to need to use lures.
Lure fishing is the way to go but you can't do it everytime you get on the water....I sure with I could. Smile

Good correction Bayslammer.

That 30" trout on a corky is a hell of an achievement, but it can't compete with your second picture.

I agree that the Gulp is just as effective as live shrimp (w/ or w/o a popping cork). If a five year old can fish w/ shrimp they can fish w/ Gulp.
Few days ago Capt. Nate and I fished around Pita. I was fishing a Gulp shrimp on a 1/16 oz jighead. This same Gulp shrimp had been used on the past two trips. I caught 30 or so fish on one Gulp and missed countless more. Now had I been using shrimp this would have been a very expensive trip because I would have no doubt have gone through 50 or more. The best part was after we were done, I took the Gulp off the jighead and put in back in the package for use at a later date. Very Happy

Saw the story and pictures below of how they have been catching shimp in Belgium for over 500 years by horseback and couldn't resist sharing.

Geez, I worry about posting this thinking about all the horses in Texas. Rolling Eyes I'll stick with my cast net and artificals.

I found this link for push nets that the Brits use. Looks like it would be simple to fabricate and I believe they are legal to use here in our home waters. Seems they could also keep some of the "small-fry" occupied for a while.

I have a couple of push nets (from many moons ago) in the garage if anyone wants to come by and see how they are made or make a pattern.
