Quote:
The funding crunch hit a low point last session when the state's budget writers cut all appropriations for beach erosion programs. This prompted Texas Land Office Commissioner Jerry Patterson to wander the halls of the capital with a cardboard box and a sign that read: Will Work for Coastal Appropriations.

The commissioner's efforts did net him $7.3 million, although at the time the General Land Office had funding requests for 76 coastal erosion projects worth $111 million. Patterson has vowed to make coastal funding his top priority next session.

Quote:
In some areas, despite laws to the contrary, developers have built right on the dunes or even cleared dunes to give visitors a better view of the gulf. By doing so, they have cleared away their best natural storm protection, Morton said.

"They just did what they wanted and no one challenged them," he said.

Quote:
Patterson believes that, in many places, it makes economic sense to fight Mother Nature. With another busy hurricane season expected, people like Pilkey question that judgment

Not enforcing our laws & all that money for CLOSED BEACHES
has me wondering whom Mr. P works for?
Evil or Very Mad

Check out Mr. P's campaign donators and you will see a long list of developers, including Mr. Schexnailder for either $1500 or $2500, I don't remember which.

It is clear who he works for then. Mad

Thanks, but since this was written pre- Severance v. Patterson I don't think this old article is worth dwelling on, even if I could read it.

Please let me know when the Tx Supreme Court finally answers the Federal Fifth Circuit's questions re Severance's appeal. See http://plf.typepad.com/plf/2011/09/fifth-circuit-holds-severance-v-patterson-rolling-beach-easement-case-is-not-moot.html If the right-wing PLF can write a review this critical of the Texas Supremes, they really messed up.
