From the FAQ
In order to bring the power to shore, the Padre Island National Seashore must be crossed. How do you intend to do this and do you have the permits to do this?
Permitting through the National Park Service is a requirement. We’ll learn more during the research and analysis phase about the best way to accomplish the transportation of the power. |

Edited - My bad.
Yep, they will likely run underwater lines, and bury them in the sand before the beachfront then go under the island. Seems it would make more sense then trying to put that much wire in the air. _________________ GOBZA!!!

Quoting from the article:
"Patterson said the wind farm would be situated off a remote, unpopulated part of Padre Island National Seashore. People who are concerned about the farm obstructing the ocean view "shouldn't have a problem," he said. "There's nobody there to look at it.""
I guess we are officially designated, by an elected Texas state official - >NOBODIES<
I kind of resent that. Hell no, I resent the HELL out of that!!!
That is a direct attack on a federally recognized and established National Park that ALL American citizens, and visiting foreign nationals, are invited, promoted to visit, and enticed to enjoy by the US of A government.
Senator Hutchison, you will, once again, be hearing from me. Texas politicians are usurping Federal rights. I do not mind the idea of wind farms, I promote them. I DO NOT like the flipant way that National Park visitors and Texas shoreline visitors are being treated. |

I think it is a great idea, and they will be so far offshore, you will barely notice them. Better than looking at more oil rigs out there. Won't affect my fishing or my peace and quiet out there, and I can watch the turbines and know that less fossil fuels are being burned.
You want to see a battle over this topic, check out the battle over them putting a windfarm off the coast from marth's Vineyard. The celebrities are ticked about their view being disturbed while at the same time telling us all to drive hybrids, use more renewable energy, and use less electricty. Its all fine and good until its in your own backyard, huh? Kinda like that D-list actress that flies on a private jet to attend and speak at oil protests and environmentalist meetings.

Closer might be nice. We could have a new area to yak out to.
I think it is a great idea. We have to do something. I think they said it would be ten miles out. Not even close enough to see. |

Drive east out of LA and you can see all the windfarms you want for miles on the hill tops. Get into Texas on I=10 and you can see more miles of windmills on the bluff tops. Are they more photogenic than bluffs or hills without them? I heard they were going to put a windmill farm in on the kenedy ranch, what happened to that? I used to get out to california quite a bit when I was driving truck and 90 percent of the time those windmills were lock and not being used. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

We have thousands of them out here in good ole West Texas. I think the ones Rabbit is refering to on I-10 are between Sheffield and Fort Stockton, TX.
The funny part about that article is the statement the they will kill birds. Those blades move about 1/3 of a rotation per second. Since each blade is about 100' long the tips are moving pretty quick, but just glancing at them you can't always tell they are moving.
They are quite unsightly and require a ton of maintenance. But the upside is its a big industry and create a lot of jobs and you know that they'll hold fish. |

Except crude oil is not a fossil fuel. It is produced in the Earth. It was called a fossil fuel early on as nobody new where it came from. Now, there is increasing evidence that it is not. Depleted wells are rejuvenating themselves. Seen any Dino's running around lately? It bubbles up from rifts on the ocean floor as deep as seven miles. It has been found in places it shouldn't be at if one subscribes to the fossil fuel theory. The Earth is full of it. There are tons of known deposits that we just don't know how to get at yet due to the depth or other issues or lack of desire. Our problem is we, as a nation, listen to the wrong people when it comes to producing our own. So we import 60% of it and that is growing. Reverse that trend, and our cost will go down. |

Either way, fossil fuel or produced fuel, we are burning it, and it will eventually run out. Almost every expert out there says oild will be gone within 50 to 60 years.
My main point here is less dependance on fuels that cause pollution. _________________ GOBZA!!!
