|
|
So in preparation for a possible hurricane I went out and bought a generator.. (A good excuse to buy one for camping/fishing) I got a 5000 watt constant power 6250 max.. I am thinking 2000-3000 watts of light should be fine.. I want to use it for night fishing at either packary channel / pins.. I really want to light up the water..
I’ve seen the sears 30 dollar 1000 watt lights on tripods but I have had those in the past and they really aren’t that great.. The pod breaks or the lights burn out or the wires melt.. So I don’t mind spending a little bit of money that will last me through the night if needed for some good fishing at the beach..
If anybody has dealt with anything like this and has some experience your input would be great.
Thanks! |

I suggest you spend the money for mercury vapor or sodium vapor type outdoor lights. I found one at Lowes on the clearance table for $39 regularly $79. It has an aluminun housing with sealed glass cover. A couple of those should do a great job. The cabins and floaters on the landcut use mercury vapor sports field lights. Much larger and not mobile but those are permanently mounted. The 500 watt halogens draw too much continuous power and you do not get the same kind of water penetration. _________________ Ego piscor, ergo sum

if you buy anything , buy construction grade, use no less than a 12/3 extension cord, i use # 10/3 costs a bit more. i like 500-1000 watt halogens never had a melting problem, probably because i use heavy duty . _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| I did just what you are talking about last time I went to PINS. I bought a tripod with 2, 500 watt halogen bulbs for about $ 60 at home depot. The tripod on mine is extendable so it even works well in the wade gut, or 1st gut if the surf is calm and you weigh it down with cinder blocks or other heavy material. I highly recommend this method of fishing PINS. |
