It’s been three years since I caught a legal Cobia, and this morning I broke the long drought! last year I lost a monster at the kayak when it jumped into my lap and impaled two treble hooks into my thigh and then ripped itself loose and made a get away. That loss hurt in more than one way, but this morning was a much better outcome (for me at least).

I know the feeling of being impaled with a treble hook from a cobia. Had one through my thumb and out the other side. Fortunately I was able to clip it and pull it out with that much problem. Nice catch Glenn

I second the use of Ling.

Nice fish. Ling have a nasty reputation for ruining a good day. Personally, I think they do it just for spite.

Sitting in a kayak, cobia over 50lbs become difficult to knock out with a billy club. I briefly considered a bangstick or pistol to dispatch them, but ended up coming back to the little bat. This fish was the ideal "clubbing" size and responded well to a vigorous bump on the head once he came alongside the kayak. Very Happy
