Back in the day SEA was formed to raise funds toward purchasing bay shrimpers licenses to permanently retire them to reduce bycatch mortality. A quick check of what they are doing now looks a like lot CCA.
Anyone care to shed some light on the differences between the missions of the two? |

| This is how I understand it but could be wrong. The two groups do similar projects but SEA is only in Texas while CCA is nationwide. CCA money gets moved around while SEA money stays in Texas. |

not quite true; money raised by CCA in Texas stays in Texas to do Texas projects....same with LA, MS, AL, FL, etc....CCA National raises their funds from private donors, federal grants, and donations from international businesses like Costa del Mar sunglasses, Yamaha, etc....
the big rub was that CCA Corpus sent funds to Houston to be redistributed throughout the state on various projects....some of the local guys didn't like it and split off and formed SEA....they wanted local funds to stay local...it's a pretty simple concept, but caused a rift...

| That's a pretty short sighted and foolish outlook, because where do they think all of the money(much more) from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and all of the other inland cities is expended? What I originally read about at the time of the formation of SEA was a concern GCCA or now, CCA would not contribute money to the refurbishment of a particular boat ramp. Such an expenditure is not considered for the betterment of the resource, but one which would be for the fisherman. Evidently, the two organizations have an entirely different goal in mind. CCA publishes the contributions they make on the Texas coast each year and it's always in the multi-millions, not including the college scholarships, trucks, and boats they award from the Star tournament each year. That being said, I've never read where they have contributed to anything in Austin, Houston, Dallas, or any other inland city, except where contributions were made to lobbyist to get the Red Fish Bill, or the Bill establishing Trout, and flounder as game fish, and now their efforts with regard to improving conditions for oyster development. I've always said, CCA is an organization made up of volunteers, so if there is something you don't like about what they or we are doing, get involved and change what you don't like. |

Ron (Behnke) contacted me that they were forming this group(SEA) and asked me to join. At this first meeting an agenda was discussed. It pertained mostly to clean-up jobs butwhat attracted me was their pledge to enter the "great red snapper" war for us.
After attending meetings, banquets and supporting them for 2-3 years the boat ramp and crab trap jobs were happening but the red snapper debacle fell by the wayside.
I dropped out. |

| Becky or A.K.A Karen is partially correct. S.E.A. was formed because of Corpus raised monies was not being used for local projects and some was shifted from our local market to other areas and out of Texas. I was on the board of S.E.A. and know the facts of its beginning. I also am a member of C.C.A. as are many S.E.A. members, and there is no issues getting along. Just more down to earth ever day guys and gals it seams with the S.E.A. camp, making sure funds stay in our waters. There are alot of concrete reef structures in the gulf with the S.E.A. logo for Snapper habitat, ok ramps at Clems and Billings, and annually funded Redfish hatchery is a big deal, as well as sponsoring kid fishing events to get them on the water. |

| As far as the "Redfish Hatchery" is concerned, a CCA member from Austin contributed a million dollars for the establishment of the facility in the early beginnings of GCCA, and has remained a contributing member of CCA, and continues to support TP&WL's efforts to spawn game fish. Thankfully members of CCA throughout the balance of Texas are not concerned about their money going to other areas of our state, including Corpus Christi and beyond. |

Ok folks both organizations are doing good things for Texas in their own way so why not support both since they are working for us.
Guess i'm kinda sorry I brought this up. But I for one will support both. _________________ just get started |
