Well fellers, took the hounds over to the back side of St. Joe to swim a little (too many people on the beach) took em back to the trailer. Then it was fishing time for me and the Mrs. We got almost to the end of the south jetty and turned to go to the north jetty, hit a boat wake no different of a wake than we haven't hit thousands of times before, maybe going 20 to 25. She yells STOP, STOP STOP, I shut down and she has crawled from the front of the console around to the side of the leaning post. I idle back to the harbor and as we pull in the harbor, I tell her I need to call EMS and she says no ambulance. We get to the dock and tied up, I try to get her out and she says call ems. Port A EMS comes and extricates her from the boat and transports her to Bay Area hospital. Where CT scan shows 50% L1 compression fracture. Been a long week, but I finally got her back to Kerrville, that 4 hr. trip was a B word, but we're here and she is sleeping in our bed, instead of a hospital bed or travel trailer bed. As a 30 yr. retired firefighter, I know what it means to see the results of your work, so yesterday I took her by the EMS "station" {thanks to Harvey} so she could meet the guys that helped her. Those guys were very professional and well trained, I was a paramedic the last 16 yrs of my career and was impressed by their competency. Thank you PORT A EMS!!

Yep, that front of console seat can be a "B word". I suggest she sit behind the leaning post next time. My wife has a bad lower back and she rides behind the leaning post all of the time. Glad to learn your wife is healing, but those backs never seem to heal completely.

It may have been the console that may have triggered it, but any doctor, nurse, or EMT will tell you it was just waiting to happen. She's had damage to it for years I would bet. I just don't want you to feel bad it happened on your "watch" is all. And good on you for taking her to meet the life savers that get frequently ignored daily. I'm sure it made their day - a feeling I'm sure you're familiar with. Let's all share the love for PORT A EMS! And another for the wifey! (poo poo, now we're drunk...)

Yep, bayfly before she even got out of the hospital she was saying she should have standing next to me at the leaning post. She is much better today. Thanks to all for your comments, hopefully by Sept. or so I can get her back on the water. And yes HUGE Thank you to Port A EMS, they are working their arse off right now, every time I tried to take her by to thank the guys, they were gone, finally found em there, but the whole time we were there, nothing but sirens. As a 30 yr. firefighter I know times like this take a huge toll on ya, even when you get off duty and go home, you're whipped.

My very best wishes to her, and hopefully a speedy recovery that isn't too painful.
Been sporting a T4&T5 compression fracture for 10+ years now, and there are still good days and bad. So can commiserate with the Mrs. Crying or Very sad

She likes riding in front of the console as much as the hounds like riding on the bow, not safe but hey, all 3 of them like their riding positions, so I just let them enjoy their time on the water and try to take care.

When I'm running my dad's boat, can never get him to sit anywhere except the transom fishing chair - drives me crazy, but he won't ride up front because of wave shock - he will get up there to plane the boat.

Update, she has gone 3 days without Tylenol 3 (she hates it) 2 days no Aleve, she did have to take a Flexoril last night due to muscle spasms. But 2 moderate walks today and she is doing well. In our 32 yrs. of wedded bliss (oxymoron?) I have seen her split from stem to stern twice due to cancer and she soldiered on through it and has beat cancer 3 times. For the last 20 yrs. she has been a pediatric oncology RN. I can always tell when they lose a kid, it hurts her but once again she soldiers on through it trying to save the next kid. She loves to fish and we are tied for PB redfish at 42 and I can't pass her. She also loves going to the beach and watching our hounds run. Dang, I hope she recovers 100% from this and is able to ride in the boat again, either at the leaning post with me or the fold up seat behind me. On a side note, even though we are tied on PB red she CPR'ed a much bigger Snook than me, it was legal length but we didn't want to keep it because they are so few and far between. Even though we didn't wet a hook this last trip, we'll try again soon and maybe a big ole bull will jerk that kink out of her back. Tight lines, guys.
