Made plans with Mary yesterday to head up this morning to fish the Rio de Los pinos in northern New Mexico. To access the river you actually have to go two miles into Colorado and then backtrack back. When I got up this morning and pouref myself a cup of coffee, sat out on the front porch and was treated to this gorgeous moon set I just knew it was going to be a great day.

Left the house this morning about 8 to go up to Colorado about an hour's drive. While we were that close to Antonito decided to go in and get some munchies and some local beers before heading back to the river. The reports I read said that the river was close to normal for this time of year and clean. I was anticipating the best and I was not disappointed. as you can see in the picture of the water was crystal clear. It was really fun watching the fish come up and hitting either my dry or my San Juan worm that was a dropper.

My premonition this morning when I saw that moonset of having a good day on the river, was not wrong. I caught and released in the vicinity of 30 trout today. The strange thing was that they were all rainbows. I thought for sure I'd get some browns. They were so aggressive that 3 times I got a double. Never did that on a fly before.

the Cumbres Toltec is why I bought this beer . Number168 is the number of the train that goes up there and a percentage of every beer but goes to the maintenance of it.

If the Dolores below McPhee reservoir isn't blowing out, it's wonderful fishing.

Thanks for the ideas gents,we really have no real plan.Just drift around in the cool climate!As always we will be looking for water,how much fishing we will get in is the question.We've done Black Bear Pass down into Telluride and a few other trails as well.Silverton is beautiful anytime of year

At 3 this afternoon it was 93 degrees here. Rains came in and by 5:30 was down to 64.
