We try to make it down once a month to Padre and PINS to fish.
However I want to avoid the spring break crazies. We cant make first week of March and after that I am concerned about spring break starting. When will it be semi normal and safe to come down again?
Just dont like being on the beach OR PAC with drunk kids and cars etc.

I've found that on PINS, spring break isn't nearly as bad as everywhere else. Especially if you don't mind driving down a ways. I would recommend heading down early and returning late or early to avoid the crowds and traffic that will be on the JFK. Other than that I haven't had a problem. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

| I have been down several times during spring break. My experience has been that the first couple miles on south beach can be a little more crowded and then thins and once you get past MM 5 you really don't see any difference |

If you are not wanting to venture too far south (you did mention PINS, so this is just a Mustang Island option), the area around Fish Pass and even the first couple of miles towards Port A from Access Rd. 2 are not exactly 'Drunk Kid Magnets'. It can be pretty sparse, googan-wise, in those areas.
But truth be told, the weather doesn't look to play into the Spring Breakers hands this year (most years, ... but especially this year!). Expect solid fog on the beach for most of March. It certainly has been like that since January, and the outlook calls for more fronts to keep the fog in place.
Good luck coming down. |

I have yet to see a spring break on the Texas coast that was ever inviting for beach goers. Fishing on the other hand tends to be much more in your favor but I would check the weather reports. Its been like a month for me of no fishing cause of school so lets hope spring break is warmer this year. I am getting the fishing withdrawals lol. _________________ Hey that gull took your bait |

When we go to PINS its usually somewhere between 6-25 miles. Havent been past 25 yet but hoping to this year. The fog was bad both times we have went this year, Jan, Feb.
Glad to hear pretty normal past 5 mile was concerned the drunk kids would race through at night or some other act of stupidity.
Maybe a day trip this Sat. Maybe a weekend trip later in the month.
Again Thanks and Ill keep watching for other info. _________________ Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. (Fishing is one of those things ) |

| Spring Break is all a matter of timing and traffic. Head to the beach early and the kids are still asleep. Leave the beach at dark and you'll miss the kids again as they will have already left, or they are staying late. Been on the Island 18 years and Spring Break was only an issue the first year when they were rebuilding the Causeway and I also didn't understand the traffic pattern of 18-22 year olds. |

Zia that is the info I was looking for. I guess we will try again first part of April. Came down on 3/2 went down about 7 miles. Set up and stayed 2 hours. Tried everything I could think of,,,,,never even got a nibble.
Stopped and talked to several on the way our only a couple of whiting and a stingray. Ah well thats just the way it is sometimes. _________________ Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. (Fishing is one of those things ) |
