|
|
On the cover of July 13th issue of Saltwater Angler is photo of Red caught by Adam Doelle in Baffin Bay. The beast was 53 3/4" long, caught on live Croaker in hip deep water. I sent the magazine Emaill asking if the fish was weighed & released but have not heard back. The State record is listed on line as 54 1/4" and 59.50 lbs. Does not state where caught. I suspect it was from a boat . Any one have any more info on the record or on this Baffin fish ? Would love to hear about it. _________________ Fishing is not a matter of life or death it is much more important then that !

| Such an interesting topic to me. Back in the mid eighties when you couldn't keep a red over 37", I released a 53" red off the surf side of the north side fish pass jetties. It was a Saturday afternoon and the jetties were full of fisherman and the surf full of surfers. Lots of whooping and attention that day. What a memory forever!!!!!!! ........cC |

Crusin you are a lucky man . In my book a 53" Red is a fish of a lifetime dream . My personnel best so far is only 43". Caught a lot of them in the low 40's but that dream 50"er is still to be found. So catch or not I fish on and on for the joy of it all. _________________ Fishing is not a matter of life or death it is much more important then that !

Anytime people talk about trying to catch big reds in the surf, I bring up Baffin. She gives up reds 45"-50" pretty regularly if you know where to look for em. The state record came from the gulf so it had that tank fat body type you find in those surf reds. Baffin reds can get longer but usually dont have the weight to claim the state record. I've seen a few 55"-60"ers caught in the back of baffin and in alazan. Just not much weight wise going on. The Catch and release record for baffin is actually over 60".

Biggest I have seen from the surf on PINS is about 46" with most of my biggest reds at 42"s. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

| We've caught them just offshore this time of year...maybe a tad earlier...in 20'-30' of water in the high 50" to low 60" range searching for tarpon. Always release them once we get the circle hook loose. Rarely catch one under the high 40" range. |
