|
|
I am trying to figure out shoes I can use for casting in the surf, can protect from stingrays and as Donnie recently experienced jelly fish and yet dont keep my feet water logged.
Went down to pins last weekend and put on a pair of fake crocks wasnt to bad as long as I stayed down by the water but when I have to go back to the truck they get full of sand. and I know they have an open back. Not sure if they would survive a sting ray or not.
Any Ideas?
I know they make "water shoes" not sure if that is the answer after looking at them. I could wear tennis shoes but then my feet would be waterlogged and prune up etc. _________________ Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. (Fishing is one of those things ) |

I don't know of any that protect you 100%. I know the predator reef boots don't and the Everlast don't. They might block some but sometimes a longer tail on one might get you in the calf over the top of the boot etc,. Others have worn snake guards etc. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

| Columbia makes a pair of water shoes that are a full shoe made for water, they have drain holes so the water escaped. Addidas also makes a similar pair |

I have a high top pair Soft Science shoes that i use in the winter (like that makes any sense) - that I am going to start wearing, this wouldnt have happened - and a bunch of the sting ray hits that i have read about - have hit in the heels and the toes.
These too have the drain holes for the water to get out.
Here are the two sets I have, and they come in 14 too. The high tops are fairly stiff - and while I have not tested them against a sting ray's barb - yet - (the day is young) its better than bare skin. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

I see Japanese fishermen fishing in spandex pants from time to time and I figure that should help against jellyfish.
I have always fished barefoot.
I find it keeps me from putting my full weight on anything squishy, and it keeps them from stabbing me in defense. _________________ Take it outside! |

You can buy Soft Science boots at academy. Love mine for wading. They won't come off when you sink into knee-deep mud either |

I waded for years in the surf and bays barefoot, but on numerous occasions in the bay I would step on some old metal or glass or wood and get a minor cut that I would think about for days while I waded.
With the information getting out about the vibrio I decided I needed protection. After a lot of research I ended up with the Foreverlast reef boots and separate Crackshot Ray guards, which get you great protection up to mid calf. This seems to be the consensus of bay fisherpeople who are serious about these sorts of things. They stay on in the mud and work well from a comfort perspective as long as you have neoprene socks.
This set up is a hassle to take on and off, so I do end up with a bit of the swamp foot at the end of the day.
For the surf I still go barefoot.
Kind of a tough problem to solve if you want comfort and protection. |

Thanks that was the setup I was trying to name and that one seems to offer the most protection up to say mid calf. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |
