I'm looking for suggestions on what line sizes to use on a 50vw. What size braid and then what size mono and how much mono to top it off with?

Thanks in advance!

It will be used for kayaking skark baits from the beach. Sorry, I had that typed on the first post and backspaced through it and forgot to retype it.

Good and effective for mid range drops - 450yards
600 yards of 130lb braid and however much 100lb mono you can fit

Deeper drops 500+ Yards
Pack it almost full 130-150lb braid and then 100-200yards of 200lb braid then a short wind on of 150 mono is my favorite

Good luck it's a blast

Thanks for taking the time to help a guy out IrishSharker and hickroots07. What knot do you guys use for the braid to mono connection?

I have uni to uni on some, modified Albright on some, and fg knot on other. All seem to be doing ok. I think the modified Albright is the roughest through the guides, but is holding up ok. I do add super glue to all my knots once cinched up just in case. Knot failures haven't been an issue for me.

Uni to Uni is what I've always used and its never failed that I can remember. Be careful using albright. Under perfect conditions the albright is fine, but if for some reason that braid gets behind the mono tag end of the knot you'll end up with a knot failure. This can happen from wave activity if you have any slack in your line.

Also use the modified Albright with no failures, I always throw a few half hitches on at the end of the braid tag end just in case. It's whatever you have confidence tying on the beach in 20mph winds.

Right?!?!?! Whatever knot you go with, be sure it's something you can tie on the sand in whatever conditions you might face (dark, wind, rain etc).

Good advice right there!

Perfect - I'll start practicing in the dark with my headlamp only.

For any other dummies like myself asking how to tie a double uni, here is a simple video I found.
