Do any of you use a landing net while surf fishing or do you all just drag them up onto the beach? I can't recall seeing anyone using a net on PINS. I have lost a few few fish using the beach drag method so I have been comptemplating bringing a net.

I work them to the shore, and then use a wave to 'surf' them on to the shore. The fish I have lost were not in bringing them to the shore, one was a poorly tied knot, a hook pulling out, and a snap breaking - this is the last 3 months.

That makes sense. Now that I think about it by the time I get them close enough to shore to haul in the water is too shallow to use a net effectively.

I always pull the fish to shore. Having a net tied to you in the surf is a real pain with all the water movement around you, not to mention weed getting tangled in the net.

I agree. Hard to carry a net around you in this condition by yourself. If you have someone with you, then maybe they can bring it to you when its time but otherwise no. Start backing towards shore as you reel them in, just let the pole do the work. Give and take if they're strong enough. Don't set the drag too high. It's also good to do this just in case you hooked something aggressive like a shark; don't want to stick your arm down in the water and come back with a nub.

i have 7 nets in the garage. All brand new. I keep getting them as gifts.

I just don't use one, never have. If I cannot pick up the fish right there I drag it onto the beach using the surfing method mentioned above.

I keep a lip gripper attached to my rod holder so I can pull the bigger fish up on the shore
