The wife and I came down or a quick trip to take mom out for her B-day and to spend what will probably be the last warm day of the year on the sand.
Seems like everyone else had the same idea. So after coming up empty at the usual spots we ended up fishing the B&R channel.
No bait was to be had so we used shrimp fishbites. Turns out the place is packed with sand trout. Only about 1 in 4 was big enough to keep but we still managed enough for 5 people tonight.
Did not catch a single hardhead either. It's the best day I have ever had on Fishbites. |

To add onto JohnInAustin post, an old friend and I went down between the 15 and 20, nearly got blown away in the early part of the day, but still caught a bucket of whiting , rat reds, the smallest stingray I have ever seen, a keeper drum - butterfly drum , my buddy said. We couldnt get mullet anywhere, but caught a skip jack in the early afternoon and that picked up our fun somewhat though no keeper reds. After the wind shifted it was really nice out there - the driving was a little rough, the water was good fishing clarity probably 5/10.
I tried lures for a bit, kastmaster, and had no bumps, it was good day, great company and we were on the island. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |
