in the last 2 weeks? I've been twice with good shrimp and nice piggys and not even gotten a bite. At this rate, I may skip next weekend. |

went out this last saturday at noon and caught a 15 and 26 inch trout right off the bat..about 30 minutes later we had fun catching big skipjack just about every cast for 30 minutes or so then it slowed down to nothing the rest of the afternoon..
once the tide started sucking out it all turned to crap.. |

I caught a 30-something inch red Sunday around 6:20pm. Caught it on live mullet. Other than that it was pretty slow. _________________ -Mando |

Jetty fishing is an art, some can do it others cannot. It is where 10% of anglers catch 90% of there fish if done properly. Fish them with someone who catches fish and you will see a difference. I started saltwater fishing about 8 years ago. At first I didnt know what I was doing, not very good luck. Went out with a good friend of mine from SPI and he openened my eyes. I just had a really good teacher. 2 Key things you need for a good jetty trip the first is structure which is always there, second is water movement, either incoming or outgoing.
Ask Silver King he knows. He has caught a fish or 2 off of the jetties.

| Technique is not an issue. I have learned from a master, and rarely go home without fish - good fish. It has just been exceptionally slow for 2 weeks. Perhaps by Friday the water might clear a bit ....... |

| Just out of curiousity, did he catch these reds fishing on the bottom with heavy duty surf fishing rods etc.? I personally, have never enjoyed fishing like that, but I know it leads to success sometimes. |

| Speaking of structure... are there any drawings or pictures of the underlaying structure? |

Frayed knot, I just literally watched a presentation by TerraSonde who has the contract for monitoring the Packery jetties and pass.....and YES, there are "pictures" of the jetties underwater.......DANG they are super cool.......too bad I can't get my hands on a copy, I'll try though....
FBPhil, if you understand where the redfish (and other fish) hang out near the jetties, you have a much better shot at where to fish for them.......and no, he wasn't using heavy surf stuff, but he was using a heavy bay fish set-up......I was using a 7' falcon rod with my old greenie curado doing just fine..... |
