I made a longer post on the saltwater board, but I got hit by a ray yesterday and the chemical hand warmer I used to cover it saved me a lot of misery. Carry a pack or two with an Ace bandage - it can save a lot of grief until you get to medical care.

I treat about 100 or more of these in any given year for the last 12 years. Heat helps pain, we think by denaturing the protein in the venom. antiseptic soaks. Doxycycline to cover vibrio and staph is good idea along with xray to make sure no retained spine. Retained spine only about 3 % but catastrophic for infection if missed. Glad you are ok. tight loops

Excellent advise, Dr. Worrell. I was just really lucky except for the fact that I caught as much with my foot as I did with the fly rod that afternoon!

Is Doxycycline something we can buy over the counter to take with us while fishing?

Pretty sure it's a prescribed antibiotic. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Never took typing - sorry, Dr. Dorrell - the W and D keys are too close together for me.
