|
|
| Last Friday I was wade fishing on the Southside of the 1852 bridge Friday morning. When I drove over the bridge, I noticed two trucks parked on the Northside of the bridge, closest to the Packery Channel. I looked over and one of the trucks was empty, but the 2nd truck had a man sitting in the driver seat, and he appeared to be looking at the empty truck. It looked strange, but not crazy enough to alarm me. After an hour of fishing, I walked back to my vehicle, and a truck pulled up right behind me on the Northside. Two white men jumped out and quickly approached me. For a second, I thought they were going to rough me up, but they immediately explained the situation to me. They had been wading, and came back to find their back passenger side window broken out, and their phones and wallets missing. They weren't accusing me, but asked if I had seen anything. I explained to them that I had seen a man, in a smaller black pickup truck sitting near their vehicle. I am not good with makes and models, but it was an older truck, small, and shaped like a box. The man looked to be in his late 30's or 40's. I felt bad for these two men, and they were respectively angry. Sometimes there are 4 or more vehicles parked next to the bridge, but this time, there was someone looking to take what wasn't his. It stinks that people will take advantage of us, wading fishermen. I wanted to get the word out. Ive often thought about what I'd do, if I was 500 yards from my vehicle, and seen someone creeping. I think I may start putting a note on my window, which reads: "I am poor and have a wife and children, please don't take my stuff". It's worth a try. |

Next time you see something that looks suspect, take a picture with your cellphone and be sure to get the license plate number.
We all hate thieves. |

I've thought about putting a note on my truck that says "I'm sitting in the bushes with a rifle watching you and thought it would be fun to see if anyone has the balls to try and break in to my truck and get away before I get a couple shots off".
sick of these thieves. unless they're caught in the act, not much of anything will happen to them. |

Sounds like the 'Wilson's Cut' crowd has moved south. Guess the word was out that people were watching their antics.
Too bad about the recent stuff at 1852 Pass. "See, that's why we can't have nice stuff"....... |

a lady posted up a photo on a flour bluff facebook page of a degenerate that stole a kayak from her house. another guy chimed in it looked like the same guy who stole a yeti out of someone's boat recently.
I have a huge issue with CCPD regarding their lack of enforcement with "petty theft". their solution? "keep items out of your vehicle". "Don't leave items unattended in your boat." shifting the blame to law abiding citizens instead of addressing the root cause of the issue.
what's next? are they going to tell me not to leave items in my garage? in my house? hell, a lowlife could look through my window and see my TV. what a fool I am to leave it in "plain sight".
If you have 300 break ins, it's probably done by about 10 different $$$holios. I don't GAF if the jails are crowded, I think we have a relatively small number of habitual thieves in this city and if we chased them down with the same emphasis as... I don't know..... seat belt offenders.... maybe we'd see a drop off.
I suppose when you're not chased down, why wouldn't you stop doing it? |

The below being said, thieves are opportunist, so it's incumbent on us to not provide them the opportunity within reason. I believe this is what the police are trying to tell us. Maybe it's time to set a few traps, and at least secure things, as well, as possible. On the phone and billfold loss, they are easy to waterproof and take with you. Not blaming the guys who were ripped off, just saying we can remove the thieves opportunities if we just think about.
Also, I just learned Arlo now makes some battery operated video cameras which work off Verison and do not require any internet connection, but will communicate with our cellphones! Because I have had to secure properties during my career I have learned to try to think like the thief and figure out what they might do and so far, have been a step ahead of them. Lighting is a significant help in deterring a thief or vandal in a many settings. It's a pain in the arse to have to strategize against them, but some of us work for what we have and others seem to work to take it from us.

| Earlier this week I posted some suspicious activity I saw at the 1852 bridge, and then come to find out, a truck was broken into. Yesterday, I was fishing that same bridge, and the same black Chevy truck pulled up next to my vehicle. I don't think he saw me fishing close by. The white man, maybe in his late thirties, or forties suspiciously walked over to my vehicle. As soon as he saw me, he ran back to his truck parked black two door Chevy truck, and sped off. I threw my rod in the vehicle and followed him. He was weaving in and out of traffic trying to make his way into Corpus. Nothing in my vehicle was taken, but praise God that I happened to have turned around when I did. Yes, I called it in. I am sharing the details to warn others. It's an older, all black, silver trim, two door, Chevrolet Truck with a short bed. Be safe everybody!!! |

"Can you identify the truck?". "Yes. It's the one with the bullet hole dead center on the widshield.".
